My biggest fear right now thinking about the job - the amount of paperwork we'll be faced with!

Worry about getting in and getting yourself through training first. There is plenty of paperwork in being a cop everywhere you go, and of course duplication galore, but it's by no means insurmountable. It's just a bit annoying :)

Yeah, I was aware I was getting ahead of myself with that comment. Still have the physical to do yet!

When did you do your interview?

I was on the verge of asking did it put anyone off joining, that wasn't my intention. Sorry!

Just shows we've got to go in to this with our eyes open.
I've worked with children with terminal physical disabilities and a 'challenging behaviour' unit equipped with panic alarms and self defence training and I still wonder!

Oh god no I don't mean that was glad to have read it, I'm under no illusion that this is going to be a walk in the park, just sad that they felt they were let down by the system..Hopefully things are on the change..

Oh that wasn't meant to chastise you at all. Keep focused on getting in and doing your physical. You'll be fine and don't worry about the paperwork. It will be a pain in the a** but be grand :D

In the same position as yourself and they told me it would be late June before they knew who would get the next intake. Interview done since sept 2016

Hi when did they tell you that it would be late June? That's interesting as it suggests that offer will not be out until then!

No complaints from me, that means I've till then to get the last element of my vetting cleared and cross what little is left of my fingers :D

Think things are going to have to change. At least with the higher level management considering all the recent things to come out about goings on in Templemore!

No worries, I took it as it was meant. Joined the gym a while back trying to concentrate on fitness and strength and just waiting for the call (for the physical)

Oh good, and keep at it. I posted some material previously some people found somewhat handy so if you want it page 35 of this thread. You'll do fine.

AMA of a former Garda from October last year. Definitely worth a read.
Really good insight into the job and the former Garda in the thread has some really good suggestions on the uniform, equipment, technology and community policing.

This thread wouldn't deter me simply because I have been waiting ages to get in and I personally like to keep an open mind and judge things for myself first hand anyway. After all "one mans trash is another man's treasure". Things can only get better from here and a good read of the Garda Modernisation and Renewal Programme 2016-2021 will give you an idea of AGS future plans and goals.

Thanks for posting up that PDF!

People taking about paperwork and yes there is a lot of paperwork but as a Garda told me you can avoid a lot of it if your clever and take accurate legible details at scenes etc, he also said to keep an eye on your cases and don't let them build up to a unmanageable level, easier said than done I'm sure ha

That's good to hear. Contacted hr and still have vetting outstanding. Fingers crossed they get it done in time for offers. One long frustrating process but nearly everyone goes through the same thing.

Im from the same campaign... drive you mad thinking about it... but more than likely offers won't be out until the end of the month so there is time to get anyone outstanding cleared

Hopefully anyway. There can't be too many of us from jan16 campaign left. Least it will raise hopes of ppl from later campaigns of getting in at some point once earlier ones out the way.
    Would drive you mad alright.
I blame emigration. If family didn't go over seas there be none of these issues lol.

    Nov 2015 here!

I would love to say more about my situation but it would 100% identify myself, anyway its fairly frustrating and a bit embarrassing knowing and seeing friends getting offers from same campaign and others from newer campaigns go ahead. I have all but given up hope at this stage.

:):) Its all a guessing game but sure it's all good fun. I remember someone back a while on here said that news may come last week in May or first in June so who knows..

Don't think he had any idea in fairness, he was attached to the social welfare dept or something.

Has anybody tried ringing the HRM to see if they know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,041 ✭✭✭MrBlack93

I can nearly guarantee that it'll be the week of the 26th of June that offers will start going out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 92 ✭✭Keeper34

Can anyone tell me when the next open day in Templemore for practising the physical is?

    Thanks.

You only get notified about 1 (your allocated one)

I guess that you're technically only supposed to go to the one your scheduled to attend but in reality you can attend any of them as attendance isn't taken

Ya but I think the offers for the May intake went out on the 2nd week of March so hoping it will be next week for offers.. Just a guess 🙈

Yeah I think people are getting ahead of themselves. It will be at least two weeks before first round of offers are out

Not at all you could get an offer right up until the week before the induction weeks starts

Waiting since Jan 16 campaign , last time I contacted HRM I was told its waiting to be signed off by the commissioner. Really hoping for August 😱

So long as you've never been in trouble that should most assuredly be a formality and they'll probably clear a whole batch of them before the next intake.

I'd say you're in with a good shot

Yeah I'm pretty hopeful this time , because last time I had files outstanding. No never been on trouble but big enough family , and family abroad aswel is what I think held it up 😞. May campaign I was following another thread and a lot of vetting was all signed off together so they seem to do it at the last minute. Fingers crossed 😊

I am in a similar situation, from Jan 2016 campaign and big family held me up but contacted HR last month and they told me my application was now complete so this is the first time I'm expecting an offer. It's been a long wait but will be worth it to finally get that email!

I'm Jan 16 too. When you say you have a large family does that mean you have a lot of brothers and sisters or a large extended family?
Do you mind if I ask what was is oom ? Approx🙂
