    Hi,
I'm part of the September 2016 campaign I met with the sergeant and superintendent yesterday and I have my medical next Wednesday. Any ideas when my pct will be ? And do any of you know the date of the next open day ?
Thanks for your time and good luck to everyone

As far as I know I think the next dates for physicals will be in June so if your part of that batch you should get word in late May..

did she get to do push pull machine? also it's my opinion to hit the gym 1/2 times a week so rest of the body also keeps fit. but whichever suits.

Yeah she did, she flew through everything else and just missed the bleep test by 4 shuffles. She's doing sit ups and push ups at home every second day and trying to work on endurance
I know I probably harp on about this but try work in high intensity intervals too. They are horrible but excellent exercise. But keep up what she is doing, lots of that will improve core strength which is a key element. Oh and if she can practice the bleep test the odd time thats a good idea. The shorter and sharper the turns the better and remember turn on the line, it wastes time and energy running past it.

Hi there. I'm currently training for the physical and didn't really have a base fitness initially. I've been following your advice on the interval training and I'm now doing 15 intervals of 30 on 30 off at 10mph. It covers about 2.5 miles in total. Would you think this would be enough to get me over the line for level 8 on the beep test? Thanks a lot.

I know my fitness but I'm not an expert. I'm afraid working out the speeds and endurance above from your figures might be a bit beyond me. It sounds good on paper to me but I would hate to say yay its great for you to fall short.

My advice would be ratchet it up. You've achieved that so push it beyond it. Aim for 10 intervals with the obvious 10 rest periods and push your speed on the sprint sections to your absolute max, I mean really blast it. One other trick to try and see how your improving is the 6 minute sprint. Outdoor, using a garmin or one of them gadet things (or using a running track if there is one convenient). What you do is run as fast as you can (having warmed up first) to a point at which you feel like you cannot do more. Keep going for 6 minutes and then see how much distance you cover. After training for another 2 weeks do the 6 minute sprint again.

You should see an improvement. What I would say is no matter what every week always be pushing to increase your speed, even by a little. Learn to feel that awful feeling in the pit of your stomach and keep on pushing even when the legs feel like lead. I hope this is more useful than not, and your performance sounds good but as I say, don't sit on it just to be sure. Oh have you tried out the running, circuit training, hill sprint set?
If not maybe mix it in as well

Thanks a lot for reply. I was thinking the same about increasing it now again. It's amazing how the fitness improves from being not able to move to recovering much faster. I will put some of this into action again tomorrow night and thanks again for the info..

I would say slowly ratchet it up now, no need to wait till she has a date. Tell her to be careful not to be injured, but also to be bloody minded. I survived some interesting fitness tests in the past, and it was at least part down to being bloody minded and refusing to give up.

Your welcome. Do increase it. As any good trainer will say make sure your form is proper, do not court injury. However do push yourself, try ratchet up your speed week on week. The more you make yourself breath out your arse while straining the better you will find your recovery. Oh and as I said already, short sharp turns. No faffing about running past the line it wastes energy and time.

Oh one little thing to add. Every part of the PCT you can help yourelf by having good technique. Be it getting the right foot position on the push pull to allow you to throw your max weight and strength into it, or not wasting time on the course.
For the bleep test you get no credit for arriving at the line way ahead of the beep. You could waste serious energy in the early levels by doing this. Count the timing in your head and don't go running your ass off until you actually need to. Hope my crap makes some kind of sense.

Just doing a bit of digging there and going by previous campaigns offers for the August intake will probably start going out between the 19th and 30th of June.

Approx 7/8 weeks from this Monday

So for me to stand a chance I'll need to do my Fitness and Sergeant/Super meetings fairly soonish. :pac::pac:

Roll on November I'd say :(

Think my daughter more likely for November too then, she's waiting for a date for pct but wasn't included in this weeks, she has everything else done and vetting cleared

Loughborough 20 metre shuttle beep test is the official one but its hard to find, I had to download the mp3 and put it on my phone.

There are apps that seem to be identical to my ears anyway. Go onto the Google Play store, search beep test and it's the one with the blue man and white background.

    Hope that helps

Yes you'll meet both the sergeant and super. These take place after the you've passed the PAS interview and can take place at anytime before or after medical etc.

    Hi guys,

Does anyone know what the story is with carrying over pension and years service?

As in if you are coming from another public sector job, can you carry over your pensionable years service? Or do you start off the same as everyone else?

    Hi everyone,

I passed my medical on the 29th March, interviews (Sergeant and Superintendent), etc. and I am currently waiting for a PCT date! I know a lot of you are in the same position and I am aware that some PCT dates were sent out last week, but does anyone know if more will be sent out soon for June? Really hoping to make August. I have never phoned them to see how my application is progressing, do you think I should?

    Thank you:)

I would take that to mean say hello to Templemore in August! But I know I'd still be chomping my finger nails til I had the invitation in my hand. Maybe some of the May deferrals can tell you when they've finished their college exams?
