Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Gas Hob - poor fitting

I've just got the keys to a new build. The gas hob has been installed very messily in my opinion. There's a line of what looks like white tac to me all around the hob and it is still tacky. What should I say to the builder next week if he tries to bluff me? I presume it shouldn't be left like this?

A gas hob comes with a gasket (rubber seal) which when installed properly is invisible - it gets squashed between the perimeter of the hob and the kitchen surface when the fitter tightens the mounting screws on the brackets from underneath. The purpose of the gasket is to prevent liquid spills on the kitchen surface from getting into the cavity which the hob sits in. If your seal is a white border like you'd expect to see at the back of a bathroom sink then it was probably installed by an amateur and not an RGI (registered gas installer).

Ask the builder if the hob was installed by 'an RGI' - use that term and watch his reaction. It's illegal for someone other than an RGI to install a gas appliance.
