    Hi,

Apologies if this has been covered before on the forum - I couldn't find anything via search, but I may not be using the right search terms.

My house has a Siemens SPC 4220 which we had installed when we moved in, but we used the SMS feature so rarely that the SIM card has expired and the number has been reassigned. I've bought a new SIM and physically switched it in, but there's clearly another step I need to take, as there's no response when I text the new number. I'm hoping someone here might be able to explain what I should do next - I spoke briefly to our installer before changing out the SIM, who reckoned it would be fairly straightforward, so I don't want to have to call him out for something that'll take five minutes.

Is there a reasonably clear step-by-step guide available somewhere for this job?

Did you down power the system before changing the sim?
Also was there a security code on the sim?
If so this needs to be turned off.

Have you tried the sim card in a phone to make sure it's been activated? Had it recently bought new sim payed for credit asked them to top it up and activate the sim so I could just put it in the gsm and work straight away but they didn't do it so had to be put in a phone and make a call for it to be activated.

Is it sending text commands out?
Have you powered down & powered back up the unit to reinitialize the SIM?
Is the PIN number disabled? This needs to match the settings already in the panel.
Are you sending text commands from one of the numbers added in the Users Menu?
Ideally you would need engineer access to see exactly whats happening in the modem logs.

I've powered down and powered back up: however, I'm now unable to go any further, as I'm getting the error message "ZONE 1 SHORT" and so forth for other zones.

You are getting a short on each zone?
Have you do anything other than down power the system?

Was there a security code on the sim?

Sounds like you defaulted the system. Did you press & hold the reset button to restart the system?
Did it ask you for a code or to default the system?

I had reset and opted for default. I've since reset and said "no" to factory default. The same issue appears to be coming up.

PIN number is switched off on the SIM.

Am I better off calling out a professional for this? I'm shooting in the dark here, and the instruction manuals I've found are written for someone with a much better idea of what they're doing than I do.

If you have defaulted the system then it needs to be reprogrammed.
If you want to contact installers in your area here is a link to the PSA website.

Once you opted for the original default saying no after that will make no difference?
Try enter engineer. Goto Utilities and select restore config. If the config was backed up to the panel memory previously it may be still there.
Have you ever downloaded a copy of the config file before.
If that doesn't work then you may be better getting someone out. Its a straight forward enough job & you should be up and running in no time.
We program these via the browser its much quicker & everything can be done in one go.
While you at it get it upgraded to the latest software version. It give you a much better browser interface.

Thanks for the advice on this - I've accepted that this is beyond me, and have contacted a nearby specialist on the PSA list.

Thanks again to everyone who offered advice.
