You can have two trains in opposite directions with a short section of double track, somewhere near Carlow!

Does this section of double track exist or does it need to be constructed.......? Would have thought this kind of situation would be high risk especially with trains traveling at high speeds...??

Normal situation is to arrange high speed trains on a single track to pass at stations or at specially constructed passing bays like one south of Thomastown.

Update from the council on facebook about this
Update on the North Quays project - October 2020
Waterford City and County Council is currently carrying out enabling works for the North Quays project in advance of the main contract works that comprise a new multi-modal Transport Hub, Sustainable Transport Bridge and Access Infrastructure works on Dock Road and Abbey Road.
The enabling works for the North Quays is made up of two contracts. MJS Civil Engineering is currently completing the utility diversion contract while MCB Civils Ltd has recently commenced the demolition and site clearance contract. Rapid and visible progress is now evident on Abbey Road with almost complete demolition of Abbey Road Business Park, adjacent residential property and the former Dunlop site on Ferry Lane.
In the coming weeks works will continue with the demolition of a number of properties on Dock Road. It is anticipated that both enabling contracts will be complete by February 2021, in advance of the main contract works that will be on site mid 2021.

The new location for the station is east of the current station so the train would still have to come through where the flood is at present. A big wall would be needed along the edge of the river up towards Sallypark.

this will seriously need to be considered in design, it will be critical that the rail network works effectively for this development, it simply cannot stop due to regular events such as this, and going by climate science, these events will more than likely occur more regularly, this cant be allowed to happen, if this project gets the go ahead

"which is expected to receive the green light to begin in the coming weeks."

I've been listening to this "coming weeks" for 2 years now... When in gods name will the coming weeks actually get here... It's getting tiring at this stage

Begin preparations for advanced design stage 75 of 300 in the preliminary post planning permission planning phase.

We may have to throw the Saudi lads a few shovels and tell em to bull away themselves at this stage.

Sure, don’t you know the government has to play its silly games. It won’t sign of on €60 or 70 million funding to support a project that will create thousands of jobs. But it can find €1.3 billion for a lockdown that by their own admission is utterly pointless.

Again, devil's in the detail, what type of jobs, and will those folks be able to afford the rising cost of property in the region, from this development?

Retail jobs? No probably not. The much vaunted office jobs to come? Not if they're call centers they won't. But sure we know that anyway. Thousands of jobs is not thousands of high quality jobs. It just doesn't work like that. The sheer fact that it's volume that is touted rather than quality is the biggest indicator in fairness. But I'm sure some will "trickle down".

The trick is, if we had ever been on an equal footing with the other Irish cities with regards to education and investment up to now. You would struggle to fill "thousands" of such jobs. We haven't and we won't be so we have to take what we can get.

most of the wealth created from this development will more than likely trickle up, as it generally does with such properties, but it is good to see theyre aiming the offices at start ups, some start ups are well aware of such issues, and implement schemes to try reduce wealth inequality issues, which is great to see

OK, lets go back about five years to zero in terms of the north quays. You are given the job by the Waterford city and county council to find funding, design, get planning, build and fill the north quays urban renewal project. What do you do?

Building developments like this is literally how you reduce inequality.

This is undeniable, anything else is just ideological bull****.

Do tell us what you're doing about that. And talking sh1te on the internet doesn't qualify.

but talking sh1te about rising tides, and reducing inequality via rising property prices, is allowed, thats interesting!

I pop into this thread once very 3 weeks or so to see if there have been any developments. Sweet mother divine, that wanderer lad is miserable. Why obsess over something that seems to cause such unhappiness? I'm personally on the fence over whether it will happen or not and always have been but it would be great if it does. Don't understand the relentless arguing with this guy.

im wondering why do people continue reading my posts, if they bother people that much, lifes too short to allow the opinions of strangers on the internets to be bothering you that much!

i think its looking very good for this project to go ahead, its ticking many boxes now, and the government needs it right now, traditional parties such as ffg, are generally in favour of such projects also, it looks good for everyone, particularly for investors and the government

How do you actually think poverty levels have been reduced so drastically over the last century? By handing out the dole is it?

So to you these types of developments are fundamentally flawed because of the inequality they create. However you can offer no alternative on how they could happen. Fair enough then!
