I got a home coffee roaster at Christmas and we're loving having freshly roast coffee in constant supply.
    2 questions:
Are there any coffee roasting clubs/groups in ireland that might bulk order green beans, share tips etc?
Are there any suppliers of green beans operating in Ireland - i've been using discountcoffee.ie but i'm interested in finding out if there are any small operations importing in batches etc

I roast some too, and have bought green off hasbean and coffeemojo.

I am only roasting with a popcorn maker from aldi but its good fun .

Can I ask what roaster you got?
    Thanks

I got the Gene Cafe roaster for about £320 from the UK. It was the best value, easy to use, reliable roaster I could find that was designed for use on 220v. Really happy with it so far.

Very easy to use and does 250g in about 25mins so it's convenient enough that we don't buy roast coffee anymore.

£320 for the roaster? How the quality different compare to
    Badger &Dodo, 3fe, CoffeAngel etc?

Yeah I got it from Pennine tea and coffee in the UK and it came with a couple of kgs of beans to start with.

I'm not experienced enough to say I could compete on quality with the specialists roasters - at least for consistency. This is probably more to do with my needing to focus and tweak timings, temp, type of bean, volume of beans in the hopper etc and keep records of all the results. There are so many variables that you can take into account.

What I can confidently say is the coffee we roast is streets better than any bulk roasted whole bean you can get in a supermarket and consistently we get a really lovely fresh cup of coffee that if you bought in any of the decent cafes in Dublin you'd be happy with.

    Also it's a lot cheaper :-)

Good luck with the roasting journey. Have a behmor myself and dabbled for a good 2/3 years. Have to admit its been gathering dust for the past while but I can't bring myself to sell it on in case I get caught by the bug again soon.

I'd recommend coffeemojo locally - they sell green in 500g or 1kg quantities. I tended to source a lot from Hasbean back in the day who always have a large selection.

I've been roasting at home for almost ten years now. We have a Hottop roaster, originally sourced from Hasbean. We got into it mainly because high quality fresh coffee was thin on the ground where we live, so it made sense to buy green beans in bulk and roast on demand.

My brother has since acquired himself an M3 roaster, and that's a different beast altogether. Absolutely 100% manual, with no automation whatsoever. I think the roasts are great from it though.

We always get our beans from Hasbean, and my brother tends to get his from Bellabarista. It would be nice if 3fe would sell green beans from their roastery (given that it's 50% Hasbean anyway afaik). There's actually a micro-roastery/coffee shop near me now (PS coffee roasters in Naas). I might see if they'd sell some green beans...

Since everybody seems to have given them a go I think I'll order from Hasbean next time. It would be great if one of the small roasters would set up a side line in green beans to the group of us who are interested. I'd like the chance to support local Irish suppliers.

Let us know how you get on with the PS boys.
