Yeah, you're going to hear it about every event like this, with pretty much the phrasing used by "Boj" there.

Even if you do regard helmets as essential for cycling among motorised traffic, a protest cycle like that is not like cycling in motorised traffic in normal circumstances.

(I did see one person come off his bike. He wasn't moving at the time.)

Newstalk's Pat Kenny Show (with Jonathon Healy rather than Pat Kenny) did an interview with Eamonn Ryan yesterday morning (Mon 3rd) re rationale for Liffey Cycle route. It was good on the whole, Ryan kept repeating over and over the manta re car-centric city not working, only solution to prioritise pedestrians, bikes and PT. Healy made the odd token comment on behalf of the motorist but on the whole was sympathetic and even made some of Ryan's arguments for him, for eg how people always oppose change, giving as examples the opposition to the pedestrianisation of Grafton St in Dub and Oliver Plunkett St in Cork. The day after the Liffey "Support the Cycle Route" event was the perfect day for Pat Kenny to be off air! Clip is in part 1 of Show, starts after bit re housing bubble. Not posting link as I can never pick out a Newstalk Clip the way I can an RTE one

No, sorry, and it might lead to some slight confusion but there should be a marshal near the Wellington Monument directing people up to the starting point.

The Phoenix Monument in the centre of the park will be the start point.

From the April meeting of the Transport Committee:

    https://www.dublincity.ie/councilmeetings/documents/s10695/North%20and%20South%20Quays%20Traffic%20Management%20measures%20-%20report%20on%20non-statutory%20consultation.pdf
Those stated as with “Concerns“ were generally in favour of some aspects of the proposals but raised concerns about particular aspects. The “other unrelated comments” were mainly support for a Liffey Cycle route which is not part of the proposed North and South Quays traffic management measures.

Ah, that explains why the bike lanes were closed in Phoenix Park today...

Dublin Cycling Campaign is holding its biggest cycling demonstration of the year on Sunday 10th of September. The aim of the cycle will, again, be to show support for the proposed Liffey Cycle Route.

The upcoming Liffey Cycle is incredibly important because Dublin City Council's Transport Committee is due to make a decision on the Liffey Cycle Route later in September.

If you're free on Sunday 10th September please come support this cause and let's get the spine of a future Dublin cycle network built. Bring your friends, family, neighbours, colleagues, pets along with you on the day. The event will be family-friendly and will be marshalled by Dublin Cycling Campaign with the support of the Garda Traffic Corp.

Would love to go to this but away on holidays that Sunday. Best of support to all who take part! When this cycleway is finished it will be a fantastic piece of infrastructure.

The Liffey Cycle has been resurrected (the event, not the actual cycle route; that's still on ice in the NTA).

Dublin Cycling Campaign has decided to hold monthly mass cycles along the Liffey Quays to keep the pressure on the NTA and Dublin City Council regarding the Liffey Cycle Route.

The next Liffey Cycle takes place on Sunday 8th July. The meeting point is at Grand Canal Square, just in front of the theatre. It'll be an 11am start. The group will cycle up the Quays as far as the James Joyce Bridge, before crossing onto the North Quays and returning to Grand Canal Square.

The more the merrier for this one: Invite your family, friends and colleagues along please. Big numbers are needed to make a big statement.
