Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is it possible to walk from Greystones to Wicklow along the seafront? Without walking on the railway? Is there a map?

If you go to the greystones side of bray beach (by bray head) you'll see signs for the cliff walk. As the title suggests it goes along the side of the cliff between bray and greystones. It's a nice walk though is rough, uneaven and very narrow in places.

He wants to walk South rather than North.

Apologies, just realised I read it wrong!

There's a watercourse to the North of Newcastle aerodrome which crosses the beach and goes into the sea. It's 2-3 meters wide and looked to be about a foot deep, the depth changes depending on the tide I'd imagine.

So as far as I'm concerned you would have to walk on the railway for maybe 100 meters to get past the water.

Have a look on Google maps

There is a track along the seaward side of the railway line on the southern side of Greystones along which I have walked for about 1.5 miles before I turned back.

Looking at Google maps this track appears to continue as far as Wicklow on the eastern side of the tracks. According to Google Maps it is about 11 miles from the carpark at La Touche Road in Greystones to The Murrough Carpark in Wicklow. If the track peters out it should be possible to walk along the beach though the going would be harder there as it is shingle.
As Boaty says above there is a river flowing out north of Newcastle and it would probably be necessary to use the railway bridge to cross it dry shod.

Yes it's possible and is a lovely walk. No need for a map, you're simply following the coastal trail.

    Thanks folks.

Have you encountered the water course?

The only option is to walk along the railway line across the bridge unfortunately.

there is a metal walkway on the bridge and gates at either end to access it, so you don't actually have to walk on the tracks.

Not sure what the situation is WRT trespassing, but it's only relatively recently that they fenced off the line between Greystones and Wicklow. Prior to that the path was directly beside the tracks all the way.

I have done all of that route, but not in 1 day.

There is a difficult patch south of Newcastle, where you will probably have to walk on the beach pebbles for a mile or so, which is tiring. Once past Killoughter you are on a lovely broad grass strip and then its a cruise all the way to the Morrogh.

Wicklow station is another mile inland and the train service is poor. You might be better to go straight for the 133 bus (once the strike is over, that is!)

might be better to get the train down and then walk back (you're more likely to have to wind at your back too).

There is an access gate on each side of the bridge. So ... excesise caution and use the walkway the bridge. I've walked, run it many times. Erosion of the trail has occurred south of Newcastle, a lot of soft sand washed over the trail, but you can pass through. It's become very hard work on the MTB unfortunately.
