Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Well I'm more excited than I thought I would be.

The only thing bothering me is the size.

The only thing that is bothering me is that my M8S is on its very last legs and I'm not sure that I can wait that much longer!

Only got the last 10 minutes of the stream. Looks great. Supposed best in class camera. I'm sure they learnt from the pixel software
What did you mean by disappointed in the size? Missed that bit

There's two words I don't want in the same sentence to describe a phone's features.

The screen to body isn't wonderful.
Having boom sound will always require more space. They will have to go to single speaker if they go the way of Samsung's screen.

I watched the launch this morning and impressive as it seemed, I won't be buying it at launch like I did with the HTC 10. It's definitely something I need to hold in my hand before buying. Also need to see drop test results as am very wary of the glass body.
In my opinion it sounds better than the S8 and the squeeze thing could be very useful.
Am sure I will be under pressure to buy by the recipient of my HTC 10. Looks like early June before it will hit the stores here.

Its a bit too big for me. Very much a personal preference thing though.

I've been using the Moto Z the last month or two, which has the exact same width and height as the U 11, so won't be much of an adjustment.

Looks a decent enough device, and the main Team Venom dev has already placed his order, so I'm definitely in.

Should you have 42mins to spare for a rerun of the launch this morning:

I am thinking black or Silver. Definitely not blue or red.

    I'm thinking black... maybe

Definitely going silver. M8, M9 and 10 were all charcoal/grey so want a change.

Holding off a bit to see if there's any kind of discount going like last year with the discount through HTC UK.

Best camera available, best sound, and the screen is meant to be awesome.

I was PMing HTC Ireland on Twitter, about whether to preorder now or not. They said to join the HTC Club and there will have 'some kind of treat in store' for members in the next few days....so I'm going to hold off to see what that is.

Signed up! 749 Euro is not bad for the phone but if they have a discount or sweetener, it would be nice. The fact you get USB-C headphones and a clear cover is already enticing.

Has anyone pre-ordered? When I put my device in the basket, the price changes from euros to pounds. It goes from €750 to £650, which works out about the same, but still pretty weird.

    £599 is at Carphone Warehouse

HTC very kindly gave me a one-time discount code which took the price down to about £550/€650 (price converted to pounds because of the code).

I'd suggest joining that HTC Club linked above and seeing if they put codes through there sometime soon.

I got a one time 15% discount code earlier today on twitter off them but I couldn't get it to work. Hopefully will work tomorrow.

Every time I see the back of one of these I want one, and then I see the front :(

Out of interest though, what type screen is in these and are they bad for burn? I use Android Auto so much that I really need to change from an AMOLED screen next time round, my Samsung is ruined with it.

Super LCD. Don't burn in like Amoled, and better outdoor visibility. Don't get the fully black blacks, though. Have been told the screen is very good, though.

I agree the front is a bit bland, but I much prefer having the FPS on the front and hardware buttons below the screen.

You could use a magnetic holder or just turn off the function?

Got my invite to HTC Club just now. The U 11 price drops from €750 to €675. Not too bad.

Desperately struggling not to pull the trigger on this at the moment.

Despite my previous post where I said I need to see it first hand, I don't think I can wait until it's in the shops. Will be pre-ordering!

Be warned, HTC preorder can be a complete disaster. I preordered direct through HTC last year and took forever to finally get it. Some people I know had it 2 weeks ahead of me.

I swore I'd never preorder through HTC again.....but I have. I just have more realistic expectations this time :pac:

I had no bother with my HTC 10 last year through HTC Ireland apart from it shipping with a 2 pin plug (still waiting on them to send me the 3 pin). I always buy SIM free, so would never be able to get one from a b&m store.

Tempted to pre order. Have the discounted price 675e. I'll be away until the 3rd. Dont want for the phone to arrive while I'm away and have hassle trying to collect it

Jaysus.......i still have this HTC One. Great job, must be going for 3.5 years now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 958 ✭✭✭1jcdub

Anyone pre order the U11 from HTC? If so did HTC pre authorise your card or withdraw funds from your credit card yet?
    What colors are people favoring?

The blue looks stunning but I can't stand phones that are one colour on the back and black on the front!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,136 ✭✭✭✭How Soon Is Now

Its the kinda phone you love to be able to show off and have out for people to see but at same time i dont think i could go without using it with a case.

I mean only for i gave my m8 and m9 to my girlfriend they would be in perfect condition!

My 10 is like brand new.

It's the same as any phone. If you drop it, it won't be in perfect condition. I haven't dropped a phone in a long time, but I still use a case most of the time. One thing about the HTC metal devices is they could actually show up some marks quite easily, even if they are only cosmetic.

I'm planning on using the clear case that comes with it, and see how it goes.

Ya if i do buy the phone id like a case that will show off the phone. I want something that offers nice bit of protection from falls etc as well though.

Always found the Spigen cases done the job really well ive dropped my phone a couple of times in work and the cover is in great condition the phone itself is perfect!.

Doesn't it come with a case?

    I won't be using one.

Can't really comment on the Fingerprint Scanner. The 10 had one that is as fast as any I've used, if not faster. I've only used the S6 Edge+, 10, Moto Z and iPhone 6 though. I much prefer the way HTC have the fingerprint scanner that isn't a clickable button. I often found that actually having to press in the home button on the S6 Edge+ was a bit awkward and slow.

I don't even know if HTC do a browser anymore. They were phasing it out last time I used it (probably M9). It might be available on the Play Store, but HTC basically got rid of a lot of their apps that duplicate Google Apps. They now use Chrome, Google Photos etc.

AFAIK you can install Samsung Health on any device. There was an issue with Samsung Gear watches not being able to connect to non-Samsung devices, but a mate of mine fixed the issue. Here's the thread on XDA.
