How do I remove a linked Gmail Account?

    How do I remove an old email address I had the use of that automatically got linked to my current Gmail?? It's not listed under Alternate Email Addresses but somebody else is obviously using it now and I keep getting notifications and messages when they sign in about Account Action required.... I don't remember the password for it. I just want to un-link the godforsaken thing altogether. Is that possible?

    Settings -> Other Google Account Settings -> Delete Your Account or Services.
