Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    The CW's next Superhero show.
The CW has released a first-look image of Cress Williams as title character Black Lightning (Jefferson Pierce) in the DC drama pilot (see full photo below). Production is currently underway in Atlanta.

Written by Salim Akil, based on the DC character created by Tony Isabella with Trevor Von Eeden, Black Lightning centers on Jefferson Pierce (Williams). He made his choice: He hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hellbent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning.

“I knew way too much about the world as a young boy growing up in Richmond, California,” said Salim Akil. “I was no stranger to violence, death, hopelessness or the feeling that no one cared about what was happening in my life. Comics were a great way for me to escape. I was about 13 when Black Lightning was created, and finally there was a Black Super Hero that gave a damn about our neighborhood and our lives.”

“Resurrecting him at a time in our society when a sense of hope is lacking…Black Lightning will be that hope,” he added. “And in updating the suit, it will signal to a new generation that it’s time to harness and release our power, and become our own Super Heroes.”

The new Black Lightning costume was designed by Laura Jean Shannon, whose credits include the upcoming Jumanji sequel, The Jungle Book, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Blade: Trinity, Good Girls Revolt and Iron Man, for which she received a Costume Designers Guild Award nomination.

Greg Berlanti, Salim Akil, Mara Brock Akil and Sarah Schechter are executive producers of Black Lightning from Berlanti Productions and Akil Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Salim Akil is directing the pilot from a script he wrote.

Excellent first episode. Strongest pilot I've seen in quite some time, with all the core characters feeling fully formed already.

Yeah it was also the CW's best series launch in 2 years. It also gave the Tuesdays-at-9 time slot its largest audience (“Crisis on Earth-X” excepted) in three years (since Supernatural).

It will also start on Netflix Ireland next Tuesday

Really enjoyed that. The leads all seem great, the story is set up well, and I enjoyed that he's more of a fighter than just throwing lightning left right and centre. A strong opener.

Have to say I'm still enjoying the show. All the leads are great, the story is getting interesting and I think it's consistently good, even if it hasn't reached the level of great yet. Still though, 6 episodes in, I'm enjoying it a lot.

Does anyone have episode 6 of black lightning yet? It's not showing up on my Netflix account.

I think Netflix Ireland is a week behind the US

Thanks. It would be handy if Netflix would publish a schedule for its programs.

I actually thought that it was a weak episode this week. Pace seemed really off or something. Just felt a bit flat

Great season finale. It actually works better not being part of the Arrowverse and 13 episodes is the perfect number.

It is part though no? Just not referencing yet

They have said it's not part of the arrowverse a few times. They have mentioned The Outsiders , Vixen and Supergirl but they are talking about the comic book versions of them.

I'm only on episode 7 so tying to avoid spoilers which makes checking Google for an answer difficult.

Has there been any official word on how many episodes there will in Season 2?

It is returning to US TV at the same time as the other Arrowverse shows so can we assume it going for a 20+ season ?

I think there will be 13 episodes with a chance to extend it but can’t see it getting 22 episodes. Actually find 13 episodes enough for a season as there is less chance of filler episodes

The reduced order made Black Lightning a much tighter, focused season than its bloated siblings. It wasn't a flawless show (the costume is ludicrous for one ), but pacing was never a problem. 13 episodes should be more than enough for any show, without requiring tedious filler and wheelspinning.

Returns tonight in the US; not sure if Netflix still have a 'day after' broadcast deal

just checked the app, it looks like it's the same deal as Season 1. Appears on Netflix Ireland a week after it aired in the US. So back next Tuesday
