Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

ESB Public Charging Network in Ireland

Very relevant stuff. I wish they would double up on certain chargers on inter urban routes. So more than 1 of the same type of charger can be used at a location.

Usual head-burying, reality-detached nonsense from the ESB.

*Claim that fault reporting is instant except in the case of broken cable or connectors - nonsense. I've encountered plenty of chargers with garbled text on screen or completely dead, still live on the map and yet I find out later via facebook that the unit has been reported repeatedly.

*Clearly still fully set on price gouging users - "The overall service needs to be considered in terms of what is provided, it is not simply kWh energy supplied. The entire service includes investment, charge point management systems (CPMS), service and maintenance, 24/7 call centre services, engineering expertise, communications and customer operations plus energy consumed"

In other words, you will still be shafted at a rate far higher than your home rate.

*Not a clue about real issues faced by EV drivers - The network is sufficient for the current number of drivers. No mention of the drastic lack of CCS coverage in the NW. No mention of the stupid placement of many chargers that render them useless due to hoggers and ICEs. Even go so far as to claim that many chargers are very underutilised when the most likely explanation for that is because they are regularly faulty or blocked.

What company could care less about a large piece of infrastructure where there's to be no money made ?

I can see the ESB wash their hands of this completely.

    .

One interested in investing for the future.

Build the network, create the interest, charge later. (no pun intended)

Yeah, that's going to happen, Ireland is too small and with EV sales remaining pathetic, means the ESB will continue to make no money on this and they're not going to tolerate it forever. EV sales are unlikely to grow to that point where the ESB can make a large profit for some time for many years yet.

I wasn't suggesting they would see returns in the near future. I would say it would be at best, 5 years (more likely 10-15) after putting in a good and reliable network before they could start to see anything coming back to them.

Buried in this set of documents is a proposal to add 5 million additional CPs in the EU so maybe the ESB is waiting for more mula from Brussels

It's only got 3million out of 32 total from the EU last time !!

Looks like the ESB won a contract in London to install a bunch of new FCP's

Esb networks , has no real " commercial " mandate , its a " tied " agent of the CER , its " commercialisation " is a pure fiction

CER can pay the esb to maintain and expand the network , with a simple decision , in the morning
