I have two routers with similar issues, just wondering if anyone has had the same and managed to repair them. When I release the plunge lock, base pops off the router. One is an Hitachi M12V and the other a makita 3620

Is there not a threaded bar with two nuts on them routers that you can set and hold a certain depth if the locking nut is gone the base falls out ill have a look tomorrow i have routers the same as yours

On the Hitachi yes but not on the Makita. I find the buts rattle loose on the hitachi if I dont keep an eye on them.

Edit: Even without the nuts tightened on the threaded bar; there was all was an internal "stopper"to stop the base flying off.
