    Hey folks;

    I've been planning to replace my crappy wooden fence panels with some concrete ones (there's lots of overgrowth & crap behind the fence which is pushing on it so putting new wooden ones in seems like a waste of time).

    I was wondering if anyone could recommend a supplier in or around the Dublin area - ideally one that delivers to north Dublin.

    I got a rough quote from a crowd in Coolquay but would have to arrange pickup myself - which would probably involve hiring a van or trailer. Not a major hassle but if I could avoid it all the better.

    ...As a small aside is there any reason to doubt that the existing fence posts would be able to hold the concrete panels as opposed to wooden ones? There's a big slab of concrete in front of them so I can't really check them at their foundation without pulling all of that up (which I'd be inclined to at some stage anyway but not in the immediate future)

    Can you post a link to the specific type of concrete panels you're looking at?

    Is it like this?

    If so you obviously need the slotted fence posts. Wooden fence posts are not usually slotted.

    Concrete panels are really ugly. Have you considered using slotted concrete posts with wooden panels?

    You will definitely need concrete slotted posts and they will need to be reasonably well aligned, to allow concrete panel fencing. They are not all ugly but of course, the decorative ones are more expensive. Some examples here.

    I had some concrete panel fencing installed by these people a couple of years ago and they were comparatively reasonable. They are based near Tinahely in Co. Wicklow but I know they do work in Dublin.
    If however you do decide to go ahead with them, be warned, you need to keep on top of them as they are inclined to let dates slip but all in all, did a good job.

    Thanks for that folks.

    Yep, I already have the slotted concrete posts with wood panels. In fairness the ones in it are cheap & thin (they were there when we moved in) but with the amount of overgrowth & crap piled up behind them I think even the more solid versions would buckle & warp over time.

    Will have a look at Abbeylawn and see what kind of prices they're quoting.

    Oh, you could consider recycled plastic. It lasts forever, is environmentally friendly (I guess), and is presumably lighter than concrete.

    Not mad on the colours though. And it's expensive.
