The lights around the sides haven't been installed yet from what I can see.

Are Geoffs planning on putting seating outside or are they not willing to Hand over any more money after the whole rates argument they had a while back?

I wondered about that. If they don't, some other bar will have seating outside their door.

I hope they don't do away with their own bear garden, I'd prefer to be in there than outside the front door.

That would be quite exciting! :D

Do those black bollards mark out a "street"?

Access road to spring garden alley I'd say. In time the council need to find a way to access spring garden alley via lady lane, no need for access then via the applemarket

That billboard will be "2 ads for the price of 1" now.

Was in town over the weekend and took a stroll down on Saturday night. I think it looks great at night anyway. will be cool if the like of Gino's and Geoff's can get some outdoor seating in the front. It will really add to the atmosphere of the place.

A couple trees also in the unfinished part would really add the street. I think most people will agree its an improvement and will lead to an improved use of the space.

Next event should be the Apple suit to stop using their name like they have done for so many others. :D

That should get some interest in the place from outside Waterford! :D

Better still they should sue Apple ® for infringement on copyright.

Just went down there this morning, overall it looks very nice. Hopefully it will give a boost to the area. The black bollards suggest that vehicles will be still able to go around the applemarket once the rest of the road is finished

That's right to allow access to spring garden ally and also to allow the bus route.

Someone mentioned that the plan is to eventually have access from lady lane to spring garden alley. Is there a plan of this?

First I've heard of it and I'm not how they would do it given all the buildings

Any updated pics of this? I'm not living in the city at the moment and am curious. I think they should have made the roof glass...I just don't see how they will get over the darkness of the whole area.

No plans for that, I mentioned a few posts back that I would like to see the council source access from lady lane.

I only way I see it happening is the school beside the nursing name are looking to either expand or relocate, other than that I dont see a viable option.

Was in Waterford on Sunday - first time in a while - nice buzz about the place .
has the ex EBS building- Barronstrand street ( ??) that is an eyesore and sold sign above it actually going to be filled ?

Also the area where back entrance to Shaws is has a lot of potential - its a pity Wetherspoons aren't moving there .

I saw some trendy bars around where this Plaza / canopy has been built but doesn't seem to be many middle of the road pubs in centre that do food ?

Whatever about Waterfords unemployment problems - the city and its surrounds have a good quality environment - this compares to Limerick which has a very poor environment .

If you're talking about the Sacred Heart Centre, I think they are relocating with St. Martin's to the new site on the old St. Otterans Pitch & Putt course, but I may have my facts wrong.
If so the Sacred Heart building looks like an unlisted flat-roof building that could be knocked without anyone objecting but I've not seen that in any plans?

Yep that's where I am on about. It's not in any planes but would certainly work once it doesn't effect the city wall running through spring garden alley

Yep that's right as St. Martin’s Gate would have to be avoided. Definitely possible to access Sacred Heart from there. Although there's a lot of "If's" for it to happen

I was down there today, the mirror certainly does work in terms of brightening it up. Still a few weeks from the street being finished off I'd say.

Spotted this image on twitter by the book centre. Looks fantastic!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,270 ✭✭✭Chiparus

Why not the other end of the lane ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

The exit from Spring Garden Alley onto Colbeck Street is incredibly tight and too close to the Parnell Street/Catherine Street junction.

Edit - the lane up onto Michael Street from SGA is clearly impossible, or am I looking at the wrong lane?
