    Hello everyone,

As the word "HEMP" becomes a much followed and tweeted interest, I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience with growing hemp and doing this as a business?

    Hello,

    Thank you for the comment.

Yes I have done some research. I have read this article and even tried to contact the people in them.

What I am looking to do is speak to people that have grown hemp / get details.

    Have you grown hemp?

The Irish market never really materialised in Ireland for some reason. Has become big business in Britain but remains a pretty small part of Irish construction with the exception of some high end German products

Once upon a time, I was involved indirectly with Hemp Ireland. The business failed for three reasons: regulatory requirements overheads; cultivation had excessive overheads due to unavailability of requisite machinery and lack of knowledge of growing methods; but the biggest problem was lack of demand as hemp retail products demand was low as no market yet established so the only real demand was for horse bedding which is low value.

Would you go at it again?

I was only indirectly involved, so the question is kind of moot but no, I wouldn't. Too much grief.
