Sorry, your browser is currently not supported, you must use IE11 for Windows PCs or Safari for MacOS. Users of Firefox v52 and above will no longer be able to stream eirSport content due to the browsers withdrawal of support of the Silverlight plugin.

For having an up to date Firefox browser I can't stream anymore. That's a joke in every reality. I was already forced to DL Firefox just to get it to work being a chrome user, now I have to DL another browser.

Silverlight is old tech, Eir need to get the finger out and update how they stream such content.

    Hi Hank Scorpio,

Thanks for getting in touch and I'm sorry to this.

I have flagged this with the relevant department to see if there's any solution to this and will be back in touch with you as soon as I have an update.

    Thanks,
    Anna.

I have received a response from our technical support team and unfortunately, this is a known issue Firefox updated their browser and decided to remove the Silverlight support on it. You will have to use internet explorer 11 to view eir Sport online. Alternatively if you are using Chrome you can download the internet explorer extension which should enable eir Sport to work, however, this is a work around and not a fix so it may not work 100% but it should.

Unfortunately, this is not an eir issue as we don’t have control over Firefox (Mozilla) and their decision to remove the Silverlight extension from their browser.

I'm sorry I couldn't offer you better news.

    Thanks,
    Anna.

It IS an eir iisse though as your service is using a technology which is outdated and being retired by Microsoft themselves.

They've even dropped support from their own Edge browser.

Eir's development team needs to update the platform accordingly, especially as Windows 10 (the fast-becoming standard) introduces and drops features with each new major update.

Errm, no, Mozilla didn't decide to remove Silverlight from their browser, they removed NPAPI support which the Silverlight plugin relies on. NPAPI is ancient (dates back to the Netscape 2.0 era), highly insecure technology that was removed for a very good reason, not only by Mozilla but Google too.

FWIW Sky Go also still runs on Silverlight, although they're currently testing an HTML5 version in some markets I believe.
