That's good news! Did they give you a time that they'd ring you by? I'm not looking forward to the entire day watching my phone like it's a bomb that's about to go off :o:(

Getting through washing and ironing (I know but I like to iron) baby clothes, my feet are killing me cant stand for too long....

How often do babies actually turn fully?

Went to the chemist yesterday for a cheer up for bits and left with cotton wool!! Was laughing my knee keeps clicking so thought Id get some deep heat, nope cant use that.. After that I said fine ill try the tea tree (which is on the safe list) foot socks to spruce the feet up and nope they said they would not advise using it..Hard to even treat yourself.... On the plus side just about to book a private session with the Doula, was not going to bother doing anything but sure twud ans a few questions at least.

How did ye ladies get on with the antenatal classes, are they worth it, got mostly no's from people I have spoken too

I did a one-day one when I was expecting my first and found it good, mainly because she went through what would actually happen when from when you arrived at the hospital to when you gave birth (whether it be vaginal or section) so it took a bit of the 'fear of the unknown' element out of it. I'm not going to bother doing one this time around. The midwife asked me at my booking appointment whether we wanted one but also said "don't put yourself under pressure to go, you've given birth once, they still come out the same way!"

No call so I'm in the clear! No didn't give a time but I didn't ask either....You'd think a text to confirm you don't have it wouldn't kill them so you can breath a sigh of relief!

Exactly! At least that way you could relax instead of crapping it for the whole day while waiting for the phone to ring.

When I had my son I had the glucose challenge one in Holles St and you had to ring the next day for your result. I remember I wasn't even able to dial the number my hands were shaking so much. :o At least with you having to ring them, you know for sure when you're going to get the news. I rang first thing in the morning just to get it over with.

I think in some cases if you do the one through the hospital, they bring you on a tour of the delivery suite just so you can see what everything looks like. Although I assume that's hugely dependent on what's going on there at that particular time. I was brought up to delivery by mistake at 26 weeks and as I arrived all I could hear was some woman in the throes of labour screaming her head off. The hubby said I just went as white as a sheet, and a midwife walking along the corridor stopped me and asked did we need to sit down - she took a look at the chart and realised I should have been brought to the antenatal ward and not delivery ward, so escorted us down there meanwhile vigorously reassuring me that the level of screaming we heard was very uncommon :pac:

Haha skitting!! Jes that s one way to see how everything happens.. Must have been a bit of a shock alright.. Yeah there is a tour of the hospital with the Doula too, but I arranged for one for both of us at the next appointment. She said she would do the tour at 9 before the appointment and to just let the nurse know when checking in that we have tour booked. Looking forward to it I must say

I have a hospital tour booked in November with the Coombe. They do it as part of the classes etc you can book. Think it will be good to see around and where you have to go etc.

Trying to get my hospital bag started. Got some slippers, underwear, dark towels, toiletries and one nightie and buttoned pyjama top so far. I have all the baby clothes, just need to pick few bits and decide first outfit.

Mine was breech Wed last week and just had a scan and they are head down! Was just expecting them to wait breech for some reason but they are getting ready!

Got a 3D scan, of course the baby wasnt co-operating very much. Turned away so could only get a profile and not a full shot of the face. Also had hiccups the whole way though so hard to get pics with the movement! All ok though, measuring within a day of our dates which is the main thing. It looks like a boy which I know sounds crazy but it does!

I have two antenatal classes done Milly in Galway, last one next week when hubby can come too. I found them helpful, I work better when I know what to expect. It was a bit overwhelming though talking through labour and the different options for pain relief. One girl was crying I think it was too much info for her.

Its all very scary now - the thoughts of all that is to come. The weeks are flying.

Ordered a few bits on Asda today, pjs, nightie etc and saw this and couldn't resist!! Thought it was so cute. There are a few others Christmas bits on it as well.

    https://direct.asda.com/george/baby/sleepsuits-pyjamas/christmas-pudding-all-in-one-and-hat/GEM582386,default,pd.html

Ive done all the classes the Coombe offer and i find them quite good. Def prepares you and makes you aware of what's ahead. I have 3 classes left out of my 2 groups, one practical and 2 physio ones.

We are doing a full day course tomorrow in Blanchardstown as my hubby hasn't been able to make it the midweek ones, and he wanted to go to something to prepare himself. So that's on in the Carlton Hotel tomorrow for the day.

I am glad I am not the only one who finds the classes overwhelming. I only have one class left (I am due next month) and have found them helpful. I would be relatively well read, and have been reading/ watching a lot of pregnancy/ birth stuff but found the classes made everything so real. It is quite scary when you think what our bodies are going to go through.

Thanks for the info Lashes.. Id say tis tough work trying to keep them still during the last few weeks then, if they can move fully that quickly...
I suppose it gets all a bit real now, doesn't it.. All along tis been baby baby stuff, now its like well who is going to give birth to it... I hope I don't get too turned off...

Oh a boy you think, they always say go with your feeling!! Did you get a glance at bits or anything :)...

Just finished well mostly, packing the hospital bags.. Jes you nearly need a big suitcase to fit it all. I managed one small case and a backpack..
Have my few bits, just packed onc towel and then two nighties and the reg stuff.
Then baby has 8 vest and baby grow's plus its going home outfit and day tis born outfit, packed in small bags will labels to say which is which..

Must get some cotton wool, and pads. I have a pile of the nightime always pads, would they be any use? or do you really need the super duper ones?

And more knickers - if anyone is looking I tried two in dunnes recently. There is a black own brand one, kinda typical nickers style, but with a little lace detail and a thickish band around the waist. €4 super comfy so must get more of them and sorted that's it.

You'll need super duper pads I'm afraid, the bit of padding is nice though if you have a natural birth apparently! Night time ones would probably be ok after the first week. I think I'll just get 1pack of the proper ones, think I changed to regular after that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,651 ✭✭✭Milly33

Okay thank you will pick up a pack just in case.

I used these ones http://www.boots.ie/toiletries/feminine-hygiene/sanitary-towels/always-maxi-night-size-3-sanitary-towels-10-pads-10153119 they were like sticking a mattress in your pants so they were able to cope with the post-birth flow. Also if you're in a tesco, their own brand maternity pads (I think they're called Mum or something) were really good. After a week or two I was able to move onto the normal night time pads but in my experience the 'thinner' night pads aren't high enough absorbency. I got maternity pads in mothercare and when I was in having my eldest, the midwives reckoned they weren't big enough, so they gave me a whole pile of the massive green hospital pads to use while I was in hospital.

Oh, also you can store a couple of pads in the fridge, and a cool pad can be nice and soothing if you're a bit sore after the birth.

Kotex do a thick nightime pad that works very well too, although I don't know if it's available in all shops.
Unfortunately the first few days are all those big thick pads. You leave your dignity at the door! ;-)

A friend of mine just went the whole hog and wore adult nappies! Her mum had had an operation a couple of months before the baby was born, and had to wear the nappies for the couple of weeks after, so she'd stocked up and had loads left over. My friend thought there was no point letting them go to waste so she shoved them into her hospital bag :pac:

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,651 ✭✭✭Milly33

Haha my mum did actually offer me some from my nan but said no.. Ill do the giant granny pants as I don't mind throwing them away.. Tis the nighttime always pads like your link toots that I have.. Thought they were great for your normal period at night time or from travelling so had a few... Will check tescos for the others...

Had a bit of a weird thing happen last night, might call to GP today. I am putting it down to not sleeping well and needing to eat. But coming back in the car last night from a bit of shopping I swear twas like all the names in my head and people did not match.. Himself said it looked like the time I had tried weed and got freaked out.. Anywho could not remember my friends husbands name and family members. Got home them and went to change and my left hand starting from thumb went number one at a time to the baby finger. Got a little headache then.. Had a bite to eat and all went back to normal.. Very very weird that's all I can say

You can buy the big green hospital pads in pharmacies. They're dearer than other brands, but very effective!
There's some reason why the ones with adhesive on the back are not recommended in the early days, but I can't remember what it is. In fact, even as I type that it seems ridiculous, but I know I've heard it somewhere.

I think it's the plastic backing that isn't recommended I think. It prevents air circulation or something.

I was told in the Rotunda that they like people using those BV (green) ones as they can weigh them and pull them apart to inspect the blood/ fluid easier. I wish I could add a vomit emoji!

    Sweet Jesus!

Yes I think it's not recommended to use standard pads as they are so absorbent rather than the plastic backing. Blood loss can't be monitored as easily with them.

I’ve had 2 kids and no one has ever weighed my pad or asked to see them!

I wonder is it if there are concerns around fluid output or something. I was hospitalised for a bleed recently and the doctor wanted to see my pad (I had stopped bleeding so wasn't wearing one, thankfully. I think it would have been weird handing that over!). I also heard another girl who was in the middle of an induction on the ward being asked to bring her pad back from the toilet so the midwife could see it.

That's strange alright milly. Def mention it to the doc when you see them. Our bodies do weird things when we are pregnant.
