Ok. Somebody is lying. We are told that there are more than enough beds available in the city. Statements in articles below contradict this.

Homeless couple sleep outside Cork City Hall

The teenager..... requested to remain anonymous.

His girlfriend.....also asked not to be named,

The couple say they have been approaching homelessness services every day for the last three weeks, but that all the emergency accommodation in Cork is full and they have nowhere to go.

Sinn Fein Councillors Thomas Gould and Mick Nugent were among the public representatives who stepped to talk to the couple

Cllr Nugent stayed with the couple while Cllr Gould went to McDonalds to get them some hot food.

Councillors regularly discuss homelessness at city council meetings, but this was a stark reminder of just how bad things have gotten said Cllr Nugent.

Councillors are constantly told by the housing directorate that theres a bed for everybody who wants one. A number of us have always been sceptical of that. This is evidence that this is not the case. "

Cllr Gould agreed, saying the Government has stated that there is a bed for everyone, but that is clearly not the case.

    This country is "xxxxx"

If a councilor cannot get them accommodation (whome we elected for the job) who can ?

I'm not a supporter of any particular party, but I wish they ALL get their act together, together. (That's not a tipe o )

Homeless are not looking for 4*
Just a safe warm bed. (Thats all)

And a better life down the line.

Watching RTE documentary on homeless in the last two weeks brought home the vast demographic of the type of people who are homeless.

    Their not all "wasters"
90% would contribute vastly to society if they got a small leg up.
    Sorry if terminology is wrong.
But our perspective is totally wrong.
We should have this as our priority rather than ("hanging gardens") etc etc.

A safe 1* bed is heaven for some.

    Tom

Plenty vacant and boarded up properties in Cork city centre, no excuse really, the political will is just not there to do something about it. Now that this young couple have received media attention they will quickly find housing for them.

The article is pretty useless. No details on the couple, their background, how they got into strife, what a bed would do and the plan to get them out of the situation......
No apparent efforts to contact the homelessness services they say they were turned away from, to get their feedback and input into the issue. Just the usual political opportunity for councilors to appear concerned on the issue.

Cllr Gould: "Cork City Council is spending five million euro on homelessness services. That's the budget for 2017. And yet we had a boy and a girl sleeping outside the door of city hall last night. It doesn't add up to me."
Looking forward to the follow up article with Cllr Gould's investigation into the issue, details on where the 5mllion goes, and how it all adds up.

The vacant and boarded up places have owners, owners who for one reason or another aren't releasing them into the market.

Simon Coveney is a complete waste-of-space. He should be forced to spend a week in the system to better understand it first hand. He wouldn't last a night.
