Short term let (6months) - how to convince landlord to accept

    Hi all,

any thought here would be great.

We're renovating our house soon and need to find somewhere to live while the work is being done. Everywhere we look has a 1 year lease minimum. We're only going to need 6 months max.

    A couple of questions.
    1. Could we contact the letting agent/landlord and offer them over the odds per month for a 6 month lease instead of the year (is this common) ?
    2. I we offered cash up front for the full 6 months - would this sway LLs to accept the shorter term?
    3. How would people expect LLs to react if we said we were interested in a letting that is a 1 year lease but we expected to be leaving after 6 months?

We haven't rented in over 20 years, so it's all a bit of a minefield .

    Cheers

Find a local agent that has a few properties that may be suitable. Give them a call suggesting option 1 and/or 2 and explain to them why.

Understand that the landlord is also liable to be charged 1months rent as the letting fee, you may need to do something to soften the blow to the landlord if he has to pay the fee again in 6 months.

I'd be highlighting the benefit of part 4 not apply in this situation
