This is a residential street in Phibsboro, with terraced houses from the 1800s. Does anyone know if it's named after Oliver Goldsmith?

I would imagine it's more to do with the trade than the writer.

Neighbouring streets are named after Berkeley, Sarsfield and O'Connell, so I think it's reasonable to assume Goldsmith Street is named after Oliver Goldsmith. I doubt you'd have any goldsmiths up there where it was a field until about 1850.

The Rev. C.T. McCready in 'Dublin Street Names - dated and explained' (1892) says:

    Goldsmith-str. (Eccles -str.) 1870.
    From Oliver Goldsmith, 1728-74.
    Cf. Auburn-str., - but not Oliver's-al.
