Ridiculous price for one sportive - I'd prefer to do 4 sportives at 20/25 a piece than paying 80 for one.

A sportive is basically the cycling equivalent of one of those runs which regular members of the public participate for the challenge or to beat their personal best rather than to win or place. In other words they are mass (from dozens of people for the smaller ones up to 10,000 for the largest) participation events that are not races.

I went to get a link to the An Post cycle series because this has a lot of events around the country and is very inclusive of beginners and moderately experienced cyclists only to find they no longer sponsor these events. That's a shame, but they do still have links to the events which now come up the umbrella of local sports partnerships with Sports Ireland.

In the Dublin area there is the Wicklow 200 (if I can be offered a 'Dublin' job that is in Maynooth then I can include this as a 'Dublin' sportive :)) and the Great Dublin Bike Ride which I assume will go ahead again this year.

It looks like it's a little cheaper for early adopters.

€55 if registered before 1st June.
€65 if registered between 1st June and 19th June.
€70 if registered between 19th June and 17th July
€75 if registered after 17th July

That looks like a cracking event in fairness. But not at that price.

I think the important aspect is the "Closed Roads and Priority at Junctions" ....IMO that's worth paying for.

The event has been cancelled this year apparently "due to a number of unforeseen circumstances including logistical concerns."

Can anyone recommend good sportives for August/September?

I'm not sure how they didn't forsee the price being a rip off. Good to see people voting with their feet.
