    Wow some turnaround.

    5-4 McLeod.

2 Coventry jerseys beside Liang this evening. Usual Coventry man wasn't at the morning session, 1st time in a lone while I haven't seen him at the Crucible.

I'm surprised that it is McLeod's 3rd time only at the Crucible, if he pulls off the upset it would surely be one of the biggest ever in Snooker.

I think you pretty much answered your own question there. Has always been a good potter and attacking player, but lets himself down with decision making and inability to hide the white. Same as a lot of the young players coming up.

Think that will bring Brecel on a fair bit, despite the pain he will be feeling. Good match for Fu too, I have Robertson down as a potential champion, but that hard match will stand to Marco, assuming Robbo gets past Noppon in the first place, which I think is hugely likely.

Steve Davis really was flabbergasted with the inability of Brecel to see some simple safety shots last night, could it be down to a lack of good coaching?

I expected Trump to hammer mcLeod.

The coventry lad misses a session. Amazing. That chap lives in the crucible these two weeks. His Coventry shirts are pretty obscure 70s and 80s items an all.
He had the wife with him over the weekend. Probably the only way she could get to see him. LoL.

He proposed to her at the crucible a few years ago, in a Coventry jersey naturally.

He may have been on the LH side of the divide for the morning session as there was plenty of empty seats.

I thought those season tickets that Coventry man and all the other regulars had were supposed to be coming to an end. Thought it was last year but maybe it's this one, unless they managed to come to some sort of arrangement with World Snooker. I know Hearn was dying to see the back of them anyway.

Seems to be a very hard thing in snooker to change your natural instincts or even to adapt your game sufficiently to become a contender in the big tournaments. Trump is the clearest evidence of that, all that talent and he's still not there, and possibly not all that close if yesterday's session is taken at full face value.

The Trump McLeod game has been glacially slow this morning and very very scrappy. Fascinating and hard work to watch at the same time.

My God, have the snooker commentators on Eurosport always been this bad? Most of the time it sounds like 2 lads on Gogglebox chatting about the game. Are they even at the event live? At one point they weren't sure whether the black (the only remaining ball at the time) was pottable until the TV shot showed the full table. Makes you appreciate the BBC commentary a lot more. I'll forgive all the "WHERE'S THE CUE BALL GOING" and terrible Taylor "jokes" any day over Eurosport's commentary offering. It's just a pity BBC's coverage is so limited, especially in the early rounds.

I usually find the commentators on Eurosport very good. But this morning they've been very critical of this morning's play and they really are not fans of McLeod in particular. The frames also have gone on and on and on so there's only so much you can talk about...six hour match so far.

And there's another break of 16 from Trump from a good looking opportunity after 14 from McLeod in frame 16. Story of the morning's play.

No the Eurosport commentators aren't in the venue, they are in London. Found the Eurosport commentary very poor the other night during the Fu match. One of them said twice "Imagine if he took that long pot along the cushion ha ha". Exactly right comparing it to Gogglebox stuff!

Having said that, it is good to have coverage, considering the BBC relegate it to red button and online which a lot of us don't have access to.

Just now - 'Robertson was only the second overseas play to win the World Championship, after Cliff Thorburn'.

I rest my case. Exactly the point I was making (even if the commentators were referring only to Crucible winners).

Xiao has looked very solid, Ryan Day has never got going though. If Selby is sluggish like he can be in early rounds of tournaments then an upset could be on the cards.

Female ref for McLeod. Will he shake her hand?(He caused some controversy by refusing to shake hands with a female ref before)

Best to just turn the volume down when watching their coverage.

McLeod really should have went for the pink.

Hendry has no problem criticising players temperaments, refreshing for a pundit.

Yeah it does but not that Isis aparantly it's his sponsor Isis business solutions.
Also I don't think he shook hands with the ref at the end but he did shake hands with Hazel as she trust her hand out.

Neil Robertson giving short shrift to Saengkham. Marco Fu should prove stiffer competition for him in the next round but he's playing pretty accomplished stuff.

Was just at the Bingham Wilson match over here. Bingham did well to grind out 3 frames to get back into it.

Going to Ronnie Murphy tonight and tomorrow. Can't wait!!!

Bingham struggled with some of the pots in that match. Wasn't a particularly entertaining watch.

Tense frame alright. Ronnie just steamrollered through the next one though.

To be honest I hope he never wins it again. His arrogance is becoming annoying at this stage. He sees himself as the greatest of the great but he forgets that others are still ahead of him for titles. No one is bigger than the game but he thinks he is. He's a bit of a twit to be honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,286 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

Was savage seeing him in person. His touch around the table really is different gravy to the rest. So fluid and natural and makes it all look so easy.

Met him outside the crucible and got him to sign the program as well, epic day of snooker. Pity my 7-1 correct score session bet didn't come up to top it all off. :D

I agree with to you a certain extent. He annoys the sh1te in me and has done over many years with the constant talk of retirement, mental issues, etc, etc.

However as much as I hate to admit it . . . . the game needs him. I think that once he retires the game will become less interesting to many people. For example you wouldn't believe how many people I have spoken to over the last 2 years and asking 'were you watching the snooker last night?' The common response I get is 'nah I'd only watch it now if Ronnie O' Sullivan was playing'

So as much as he annoys me I'm willing to grin and bear it for the good of the game. I just hope he doesn't beat Hendry's record of 7 world titles. Hendry had a much better temperament.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

That was far too easy for OSullivan, I wouldn't say he played all that well, just as good as he had to be. Murphy looks great playing those exhibition shots off the cushion to pot the red, but when it comes to knuckling down and applying pressure on his opponent, he seems totally clueless and incapable. Don't know if i'd make too much of his criticising of Ronnie pre-match but I certainly don't think it helps things anyway. He may surprise me and make a match of it yet - I don't trust O'Sullivan not to throw in a wobbly session or two nowadays - but I don't believe he has the capacity to win it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,286 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

Well Ronnie will have to do it the hard way.

Possible path of Murphy, Ding, Selby and then whoever comes through the bottom half in the final is about as tough as it gets.

Ronnie seemed to be striking the ball really well. As others have said, haven't seen him play that well in a long time. Maybe the comments from Murphy leading up to the game got him riled up.

Shaun doesn't strike me a the sharpest crayon in the picnic drawer if I'm being honest. He should really learn to keep his mouth shut, rather than acting like a shill for Barry Hearn. Hope Ronnie gets the job done.
