This is awful stuff from Higgins, he doesn't look comfortable at all

2-1 to Selby. Multiple opportunities missed by both throughout

I know Selby has missed a few but to go in to the mid session interval 2-2, Higgins will be delighted

    Catch 22.

There was 57 frames played on it in the semi's, if they don't recover it they'll have pinging cushions, less grip and balls not going in off the jaws.

They have to recover it, even though it'll mean dead cushions with more grip it'll also mean balls will slide in off the jaws.

The worst thing a player wants is pinging cushions and the white not gripping spin.

Is this the first time Selby has been behind all tournament?

This table is a disaster. Such a shame.

That Selby shot a couple of minutes ago definitely drifted off

    Welcome!

Remember, the cloth is only there to cover the slate and the slate is basically composed of quartz and chlorite.

If you were to try play snooker purely on slate, it'd be very similar to playing snooker on ice - it'd be impossible to screw or stun a ball because the balls can't grip off their surface.

When you have 50 or 60 frames, the cloth wears down to a point there's less covering and less to grip. When there's less cloth covering on cushions it means there's less in between the ball and the rubber.

So with a fresh cloth, the balls will slide into the pockets off the jaws because there's more of a buffer between the rubber (which would ordinarily a bounce a ball) and the cloth.

When the cushion cloth is worn down, balls will ping off it for the same reason - the rubber is more exposed and rubber bounces the balls further.

Anyway in other news if Higgins wins this session 6-2 that's a mountain even Selby won't climb. John is not going to lose many sessions worse than 5-3. Huge 2 frames now.

According to the commentators on eurosport earlier on it was only the cushions that were replaced.. The cloth is the same as used in the semi finals. Maybe it should have been changed too.

Remember Selby's semi final went to the line. I can only imagine that tiredness and the emotional involvement against Ding is now taking its toll.

Higgins on the other hand had a much easier semi.

It's a large number of frames requiring much concentration and composure.

    Come on Mark!

Massive frame to steal by Higgins there. He seems to have settled into the match now, but Selby is still a bit uncomfortable

    That'll hurt

    What a steal by Higgins.

If he wins the last one it'll make things very interesting going into tonight.
