This looks like a shoot or seedling of a shrub, possibly a type of Berberis.

I'd put it in a pot and see what it does.

Its a weed if you don't want it, but it does look like a new berberis which is a rather attractive shrub, they do seed quite easily.

I've potted it anyway and will see how it goes.

There doesn't appear to be anything similar in the garden.
