There will be no preemptive strike since Seoul and Tokyo are well within range of NKs conventional weapons, let alone it's nuclear ones.

Trump might be that stupid, but his Generals are not, thankfully.

Trump is listening right now, but he can easily disregard advice anytime. He ignored world opinion on Climate change and the Iran deal. He fully capable of going rogue on the North Korean issue. Kim is quiet at the moment he not firing missiles, but a provocation always will up the ante and upset Trump.

You ignoring what the US generals in charge are saying. North Korea will be denuclearized by peaceful means or we will remove them by force. If we take it they are truthful the only real option will be war eventually. I don't see any way North Korea will give up nuclear weapons, do you?

The US generals are sabre rattling.

NK won't give up nuclear weapons - that's kind of the whole point of a deterrent.

North Korea wouldn’t be stupid enough to wipe out a couple of US cities. The US have the capability to incinerate their country several times over.

North Korea have no intention of using their nukes. They only wish to have them to fend off any attackers.

The only outcome of this is a stalemate.

Since the end of the Korean War, 64 years ago, when has the US, or any other country, seriously threatened NK with war or invasion?. The idea that NK is arming itself because of a perceived US/external threat is ridiculous.

NK wouldn't be stupid enough to launch a strike on the US but are being sensible in threatening the US with nuclear war and developing the means to do so? Personally I view the latter as being stupid and think North Korea is barking mad.

It’s the post-War peace we seem to be having trouble with. Removing military threats and dictators, we have a pretty good track record of. I would not be surprised if the Trumpian solution to this would be “right, we’ve removed Kim and his nukes. Good luck, Norks, we’re going home. Hope you sort yourselves out. Your brothers to the South might help...”

Even Rex Tillerson a moderate said if we can't denuclearise using diplomatic efforts, the last option is war. We experiencing this right now efforts to force change, but eventually, North Korea will demonstrate they have the workable re-entry vehicle to fit on top of a missile and it can reach the United States. The CIA has told Trump he has about a 5-month window to hit them. Of course, it could be just sabre rattling, and this war will never happen, but everyone in power the generals, the politicians say they can't accept a North Korea with nuclear weapons. I taking the word for it.

Meanwhile China put on a massive show of strength the other day , many believe China are preparing for some sort of military action.
Likely they will move into NK to protect their puppet kim

A war with just North Korea will be nuclear. North has a decent missile defence, but the tanks and planes are not adequate and it takes only a few days to control the skies over North Korea. Of course, if China joins it may not turn into a battle of manpower. China and North Korea would overwhelm South Korea with men and not a chance America and South Korea could stop them. America could use nukes than to not lose face.

Too risky to do this by military action. More likely they would try to convince some NK generals to take over. If the Chinese attacked, Kim would have to attack Seoul to draw the Americans in and hope somehow the US and China come to blows.

China has an active force of over 2 million men. They call on many more millions if needed. China is a country with 1 billion plus people it's enormous the manpower the could draft. North Korea has another 1.2 million active men, 6 million reservists. The Americans only have 30,000 military personnel in South Korea. South Korea about 600,000 active soldiers.

    Ever see that movie Spartan?
Or hear about how about how the Romans took over Europe?

Numbers are everything, China also now has multiple deep radar yokes looking in at them now, due to their sheer ineptitude over this crisis.

In my opinion, Numbers matter if armies have similar modern tech weapons. Are you referring to the ancient Greek State of Sparta? Rome military was just better equipped and had better tools and tactics for war than everyone else. They also knew how to form alliances and turn tribes against other. Julius Ceaser beat Gaul ( The Keltic) using the divide and conquer tactic.

China military is using modern tech, they can fight a war with ease North Korea right next door to them. I have a feeling manpower will be deciding factor early on, after this can turn really scary.

Gatling is right China is preparing its military for war. It may be for North Korea or Taiwan or for a war that may or may not come?

That means nothing really , did you hear about the time China went into Vietnam can and had to withdraw after heavy losses ,

How many of the 2 million can actually fight or have any experience in fighting a modern war ,
Moving large amount of men , vehicles ,supplies takes time and a lot movement out in the open ,
Very susceptible to air ,land and sea attacks ,

A modern military only requires enough personnel to run the machines of war.

    China has 2 aircraft carriers.

The USA has 55 decommissioned aircraft carriers which could be recommissioned not even counting its 11 in active use at the moment.

Where does China want to bring its 2 million personnel for an invasion ? They wont be shipping them anywhere thats for sure. Numbers only counted when cannons and muskets were the weapons of war

that 55 includes all the ships from WW2 and just after. no chance of recommissioning them, assuming the hulls even exit. even the relatively recent kitty hawk class carriers have either been broken up or will be very shortly.

Plenty of talk the last few days about the Chinese troops being put on battle readiness status. For me China moving into control NK is the best outcome from a ****ty set of out comes.

    'Someone pressed the wrong button'

This alert was apparently (wrongly) sent out to thousands of folks over on the sunny island today.
Imagine getting that on your phone, sure you'd be digging a hole and wrapping up in silver foil.

    beWTAv6.png

Might have been one of those planes/UFO's doing a hasty Mach 6 across the Pacific.
The fact that it says 'is not a drill' only compounds the mess.

Have you read the tweets from people in Hawaii? It must have been hell. How many have died (suicide) because I’m betting some have. One tweet said a friend went to a shelter with drink and a load of tablets. People were trying to get into sewers.

It's so upsetting. I can't imagine what those people went through. I'm not sure I would be able to keep it together in that situation. It will be traumatising for so many

Safe to say new underwear sales will be up on this time last year.
3 short beeps followed by a long one, is even worse than the Angelus bells.

All well and good if you have a basement bunker, but it's the weekend and thousands given just minutes to take action.
The 3rd round at the Sony PGA in Hawaii today may have shaky results with many chopping about the sand bunkers.

White House says it was a state exercise? Is that true.
How can '' this is not a drill'' be followed by a state exercise, Shirley that puts everyone in danger when the real thing happens, people will assume '' here we go again''

I'm not Shirely, but the folks here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-us-canada-42207680/hawaii-tests-nuclear-warning-siren sure seem relieved after it was a 'wrong button press during a shift change' incident.

As well as 3 broadcast beeps, there's also a waverly type sine tone for outdoor broadcasts.

12mins to find a hole and hide in it, isn't a great deal of time to prepare for 3wks of hide and seek. Checklist: Make cup of tea, nice ham sandwinch, faraday cage the iPhone, fill a dozen sandbags...
