I wouldnt say Russia is any less powerful than it used to be under the old soviet union.

Well it isnt. The Soviet Union was big.

The modern country of Russia has a smaller population than germany and france together.

Their one aircraft carrier has to travel with a support ship because it keeps breaking down. Their army are mostly conscripts.

With NK now claiming to have much of the US within range, there is now real fear that they are now at risk of attack. Trump will be forced to either accept that risk or eliminate it!

Ah it's probably just the usual banter, people used to say the same thing about Iran after the Iraq war you would swear we were railroading our way into Tehran, then it was Brits talking about the Euro was going to collapse IMMINENTLYor Greece was about to bail from the EU.

I recall a story (most likely apocryphal) about a banker on the eve of the Great Depression who knew it was time to cash out when his taxi driver was talking to him about stocks and bonds and how it was all going to keep going great.

A stream of classic "linear thinking" herd trends point to things that could have happened if someone didn't change direction.

for example, with the Euro, the ECB rewrote the rules to prevent the Euro collapsing.
The (1929) banker clearly decided that he had to change direction before the herd stampeded into a cul-de-sac!

Considering how close the latest missle came to actually hitting japan proper it might end up out of trump and the Chinese government hands completely ,

The latest test missile was recorded on people's phones coming down another minute or two and we could end up with a declaration of war

Their army is conscripts and professional.Special branches are professional.
And they have come up with some pretty hi tech gear to their troops in the last 10-15 years.
And still modernising their navy, that probably will be one of the most modern in the world.
hypersonic missiles they are on top so far.anti missile defence, nukes etc.
Id say they are well on top of their game.

Everything in small numbers , meanwhile every other nation are increasingly updating their militaries ,
No where near top of any game

    Bit like re regs

I'm sure their special forces are on a par with everyone else's. They build some good aeroplanes too.

But their army is a shadow of the former soviet union.

Enough to cause problems for any invaders,i wouldnt try it.
Hitler and Napoleon knows that too.
And they are slowly upgrading their military forces to be well on top of their game.

Its not my fault! The way you wrote it made it sound like Hitler and napoleon were upgrading their armies.

(And I live in a country right next to Russia.)

This will keep rumbling on till NK accidentally on purpose hits either Japan ,the south or gets close to america ,
But I honestly believe China will eventually annex the North to prevent anything happening to their puppet

The US military has detected "highly unusual and unprecedented levels" of North Korean submarine activity and evidence of an "ejection test" in the days following Pyongyang's second intercontinental ballistic missile launch this month, a defense official told CNN on Monday.

An ejection test examines a missile's "cold-launch system," which uses high pressure steam to propel a missile out of the launch canister into the air before its engines ignite, preventing damage to the submarine or submersible barge that would launch the missile.

Carried out on land at Sinpo Naval Shipyard, Sunday's ejection test is the third time this month -- and fourth this year -- that North Korea has conducted a trial of the missile component that is critical to developing submarine launch capabilities, according to the US defense official.

Rex Tillerson: CNBC channel live interview from State dept.We have limited options on NK, we have been using peaceful means to influence NK, sanctions. We do not blame China for NK, NK is solely responsible for what's happening. We want a de-nuclearized Korean peninsula, we want NK to see we are not its enemy. Our other options are clearly not nice.

One option the Yanks haven't tried is minding their own goddamn business...North Korea has the same right to develop and test weapons as any other nation on earth.

In fact it would probably be doing far less developing and testing if it was not under constant threats and sanctions.
The one thing the western propaganda media always omits are NKs statements that its weapons development are to deter an American invasion.
And that's a reasonable position given what has happened in Iraq, Afghanistan,Libya and the ongoing American efforts to destroy Syria.

The only Nations on America's hit list that they remain wary of attacking so far, are the two well armed ones Iran and North Korea.

The US government is not seeking a regime change in North Korea, the secretary of state says, amid tensions over Pyongyang's missile programme.
"We're not your enemy," Rex Tillerson said, adding that the US wanted a dialogue at some point.
Meanwhile, a senior Republican senator said President Trump considered going to war with North Korea as an option.
It is believed that Pyongyang's latest missile test could hit the US west coast and beyond.
"We do not seek a regime change, we do not seek a collapse of the regime, we do not seek an accelerated reunification of the peninsula, we do not seek an excuse to send our military north of the 38th Parallel," said Mr Tillerson.
"We're not your enemy, we're not your threat but you're presenting an unacceptable threat to us and we have to respond."

    That last line is interesting!

Plus the war is not over , only a ceasefire and truce.
If the US attacks it will draw in China into a war.

The US UN has just announced new sanctions against N.Korea.
It seems half a million dead North Korean children are to be added to the half a million ("we think it was worth it") dead Iraqi children.
Estimates say that North Korea exports about $3bn worth of goods each year - and the sanctions could eliminate $1bn of that trade.
Great! Reduce the weakest in society to poverty, starvation and famine.
    Long live freedom and democracy!

    Even China agreed!
China, North Korea's only international ally and a veto-wielding member of the UN Security Council, voted in favour of the resolution this time. It has often protected Pyongyang from harmful resolutions in the past.
If NK spent some of their missile development funds on food, there would be no mass starvation, there is no need to starve the population, they have the choice to slend on food or missiles.

The Chinese stopped buying coal a while back.

So they've already done more than the new UN sanctions will do.
