You honestly believe someone will give you a 700e discount on a 1200e car because of persistence?

    hahahahah

Yes , but I,would qualify the low offer over the phone first by saying ," I have a definite interest in the car , but I'm at about half your asking price ,"

if you still want to show it to me and are prepared to entertain that level of offer then
" I'm on my way with cash NOW"

If that level of offer is no use, no harm done , no point in wasting both our valuable time, but keep my number in case you still have it next week.

I get at least one of those calls every time I sell anything on DD or Adverts, whether it's a car or something else. I've yet to sell anything to any of them.

It's a numbers game , plenty of people will sell cheap to a respectable buyer, to shift quickly.

Equally there's many petrol heads that will hold out for months for the asking price, not every seller is the same , far from it, a lot can be picked up from the layout and wording of the advert online.

I would be pretty cheesed off if I had taken time out to show a car where the buyer had no intention of paying even half the asking.
This hacks me off to no end, was attempting to sell my BMW GS Adventure, probably showed it to 15-20 people all of them cheap f***s. bike is in perfect showroom condition and they want it for free, STFU & GTFO. stop wasting my time
in the end I said f*** it... ill just keep it and let it sit in the garage collecting dust before I give it away
    ok rant off, tanks

I find a very strict "time wasters won't be tolerated" at the bottom of the ad cuts down (though doesn't eliminate) them.

Lads there's 96,922 cars for sale on donedeal alone at the moment , never mind adverts, carzone , carsireland etc. Plus commercial vehicles.

    There's 26,000 cars for sale under euro 2,500 .

Loads of bargaining to be done in this irish BUYERS market.

Normal level of used cars for sale should probably be half the above stock levels.

So a lot of people are delighted to get any cash offer, and a few are insulted, that's simple economics.

No it doesn't, as you can see from poster above, apparently some think being persistent is the right game. :pac:

Back to sub2k car adverts pls

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,884 ✭✭✭Soarer

I don't think he means being persistent by annoying the same person over and over. He obviously means contacting dozens of sellers and offering each of them small money.

Like he said, you only have to find a desperate seller once.

Sort the cars by oldest ad, and start ringing from there. You'd be surprised what people would take when their car is advertised for months on end.

What is the reliability like on these? I know older Fiat Puntos were terrible but haven't looked into them much over the years

That model punto's not the worst. They're a nice place to be in.

The electric power steering gives trouble and is a pig to put right if it's faulty.

Dont think they fair out too well in a frontal crash, that was one of the reasons the car rental companies stopped using them as the engine comes in on top of the driver

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,812 ✭✭✭✭bear1

My parents have a 1.9 punto like that.
It's been very reliable and quite frugal, around 5/6 litres per 100.
My father in law has the previous model with that 1.3 and it's also been very reliable and sips fuel.
    Re crashing.. are you sure?

Yes its got 200k miles and yes its a Nissan Note, but 1 owner with comprehensive service history, NCT to 3/18 and tax to 6/17 for €999. It could get a new driver out of a hole what with insurance etc

Had a Nissan Primera the same year as this, in general the brand is good, never once gave me a bit of hassle, had similar mileage to this.

Time to get the mrs to sign up to boards and get onto the bangernomics thread

My own car of 10 years. Not expecting €600 for it but hope someone will pick it up and run it.
Tax and NCT. Never gave a moments trouble.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

You can put it through the NCT now, ronoc101. If it passes it will be valid until 06/18 and there is every chance you should get very close to your asking price for it. Might be worth your while to put it through the test? If even as a final salute to the car that has served you well? :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 19 ronoc101

Thanks Unkel. Not a bad suggestion but cost of test plus an hour of my time is €100 off whatever it sells for. May not be worth it......

Without the test it won't sell.

Your then asking a potential buyer to take a punt on buying it. Some buyers would be very wary of buying a car with such a short NCT. They would suspect the owner is not confident it will pass and just trying to offload it. I know €600 is not a huge amount for a car but a buyer might not take the chance of spending €600 that worst case, could be dead money at the end of next month.

Looks like a nice way to spend €1500 and I wouldn't even be that into them.
