Interesting he notes the VRT rebate @ 2.2k in the ad. If this was the case, would it not be easier for the dealer to just export it, say, to a dealer up north or auction house and make a lot more. Or am I missing something?

What's more interesting is that the VRT Rebate Calculator has the rebate down as €0. https://www.ros.ie/evrt-enquiry/vrtenquiry.html?execution=e1s3

OMSP value = €1940, calculated at 34%, so it would have to be north of €6,000 to get a €2,200 rebate.

    Dealer speaks with forked tongue.

Genuine Bangernomics here, well over 600,000 Km, just crazy that insurance is so hard to find for this car (insured as your only car, not as a 'classic' second car.

    1993 Audi 80 Diesel, 643,000 Km, NCT to March 2019, €1,000

Carzone - jaysus! If that actually has 400k on the clock, colour me impressed. It looks in fantastic nick inside and out. €1k is saucy but a TDI 80 is practically indestructible.

VRT would have had to paid in the first place. That smacks of the type of car someone with a VRT exemption would bring over with them from the U.K. Dunno if it’s imported.

is VRT not paid on every car?

Not if imported via Transfer of Residence exemption.

Is it true those cars are so indestructible they have a kind of stasis field that affects human biology? Your hair and nails actually stop growing while you're behind the wheel.

Carzone includes a handy finance calculator. Seems I could get it for "60 monthly payments of € 19.94" Is there anyway to setup a PCP type arrangement? :D

Petrol 1.5 Mondeo with 200k miles but NCT until March 2019 asking €1500, add specifies no offers though ........... still. Looks good and the mileage isn't totally huge IMO... was NCT tested 2 weeks ago.

    5300 miles a year. I’d be skeptical!

They actually look good in person. Pictures don't do it justice. What I don't like in the interior colour. Unless you were talking about that.

    Both. :)

I think the worst thing about it is msport alloys on an se, just looks terrible. If it had original wheels on it would look lovely IMO

    '04 S350
    NCT Sept '18
    104k miles
    Asking €2k
It's hard put a price on this car, is it realistically even worth €1k?

It is worth exactly what someone will pay for it. As a mode of transport, it is essentially worthless, as the running cost (especially in Ireland with the crazy tax system) means that if you could afford to run it, you could probably afford to buy a much newer one. The only way to sell one of these is to get an enthusiast to buy it, and enthusiasts who are prepared to put their hand in their pocket are few and far between. If I was him, and someone offered me €500 I'd take their hand off.

Nexen N6000 tyres on them, he claims they are new. If so he probably saved €30-40 per corner over a Michelin or similar. Which to me is a warning bell.

Has been that amount for about a decade now. It's what I pay on the Lexus, or over €2,000 if you pay in 6 month installments.

    Don't know about tax

I would ask do I win, but I think somebody posted some cracker a few weeks ago.

Nexens are not that bad, not the typical ditch finders you'd find on half of the cars in Ireland. Not the best, but usually a very good value for money.

The difference between them and cheapest Michelins is around €50.

Apologies for the off topic chat, but is there not a big market for shipping these types of car to the UK where the tax isn't nearly so onerous? Put another way, shouldn't everybody in Belfast be driving our aul' barges?

Dang, my Bangernomics Saab 9-3 died of timing chain failure, need to replace it.
The 159 I was looking at was sold, bugger.

Sorry to hear that. What age/mileage was it?

Sorry to hear that. What age/mileage was it?

    2005, around 240k.

I had to head into work on Thursday, it was -6 outside, and the car refused to start.
Following this the starter was turning but nothing happening.
Tbh I thought it was the fuel pump again.
    But sadly no.
The nice lads in D&S took a look and quickly knew it was the timing belt.
My own fault, but figured it would last for another couple of weeks until I traded it in.

My better half is demanding a non-Bangernomics ride this time, so looking at a 08 Beemer 520 tourer, we shall see.
Buy in haste, repent at one's leisure!
