Anything to watch for on those 9-5 diesels?

Yeah. Get one with a lot more than 2 weeks NCT :p

Plenty of them for sale. Absolutely no reason at all to take a gamble with one running out of test...

NCT till January 2018 & tax to December included.

It's even the right colour! You could use your current yoke as a donor.

How did you know mine was green!

This guy seems pretty eager to sell, saying he'd even consider a swap for a phone or tv:confused:

Primera, 2003, asking for €600 or ono takes it away today.

Based in the city centre as well so would be very handy for me to pick up. The specs say NCT Jun 2017 but the description says "Only recently NCT" so might be a typo there on one or the other but wouldn't get it if the NCT was actually expiring next month.

EDIT: I texted the guy he said it went through NCT recently but it was back dated

Jaysus. 475 is in the title as well as in the description so there's no typo there. Maybe it's rough or there are a few minor things wrong with it. Like on mine, the battery for the alarm was dead and I didn't bother replacing it. The window regulators use cheapo green plastic rollers from Opel and they tend to get brittle over time and break. Stuff like that. Ring him, ask and get back to us here. Make sure the magic cup holder is working

It's basically a free car until the NCT runs out

No slush problems on these either, really nothing major to go wrong on them. Old skool engine, lasts forever.

Because the car has a biopower engine. this means it can run on E85 ethanol fuel as well as petrol. I dont think you can buy E85 in ireland any more so its a bit moot.

You can't, even though you see quite a few cars advertised as "dual fuel" - not much good if you can only buy one!

They are not lying though - the car can run on dual fuel.

True enough, though they might as well add "can also be driven by gravity when going downhill" for all the use it is.

  • Registered Users Posts: 51,243 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Well it's always up to the buyer to arm themselves with as much research and knowledge as possible on what they are buying. Too many just jump and don't look where they are landing.

So you don't want another green corolla:D

You could do worse than that Focus, the interior looks lived in, but it seems fine on the outside. Genuine NCT, might be out of tax but hasn't changed hands in the last 3 months anyway.

That engine is rated better than the Focus 1.4, it'd be worth a test drive I'd say.

Passenger side doors look a different colour to the rear quarter panel. Could just be the angle that the pic was taken but worth keeping an eye on when you get the car in front of you.

Was shocked at your memory there earlier! but no I'm sick of looking at the corolla want something a bit more presentable.

I sent the Focus guy a text but he's based in Coolock, too much of a trek for me on the south side.

I know you advised the Primera over this Almera but this garage is only down the road from me here so I'm tempted if they were to let it go for ~600 cash. The Primera looked a bit suspect as well with leaking water pump etc

My Dad drives an 08 Primera, the only issue he had with it was that he needed to get the piston ring seals(?) replaced due to poor maintenance by the previous owner. However, since it was fixed up he hasn't had a problem with it. Although in both of our opinions it's a bit lacklustre in the power department.

I drove one of those Almeras as a rental for a few days. Not exactly drive of the century, but a grand car for day to day driving, nice and light for parking, not too big either. Decent space in the boot, easy for passengers and driver to get in and out. I suspect they are relatively bomb-proof if looked after at all as I see plenty of early examples on the road long after other cars of that era have bitten the dust. Also you'll get back a few bob should you ever decide to move it on.

I had one for 2 years issues included
    Wiper motor failing
    Gear box going bang
    Timing chain stretching
Lambda crank and cam sensors all needing to be replaced
    Radio died
    Brake calipers all failed
    Passenger window regulator
I got the car with fsh and 50k miles done. I gave up on it after 2 years about 100k miles
Lots of common problems on these. Might not be the best bet.

This looks clean, well minded and genuine.
    Test till April 18
And tax till the end of July this year.
180k miles is nothing to these especially since it's supposedly gotten a new clutch and box.
Asking €1000 but it's a buyers market these days.
