That looks very genuine. Nice find. Not sure about the auto box though!

How many miles are you driving it over the 1 or 2 days? Unless its massive mileage over the 2 days then diesel seems nuts if it's not used the other 5 or 6 days.

Id be doing about 100 miles per day when it gets used. Anyone got a recommendation on what models to look out for, something 2009 and below 3k

Anything diesel in that price range with that criteria is going to be well jaded or a money pit.

Dunno, maybe mostly they are, petrol types would easily be as jaded, There was a low mileage one a few posts back, but its gone from donedeal already, even if you got a year out of something at cheap money so long as it ran, especially if there is any tax on it could cost little and tide someone over in the interim of getting something more expensive.

I'm not sure I'd agree with that methodology when it comes to cheap diesel cars unless it was something old school like a Mk 1 Octavia or Superb. The OP however is looking for something from 2009 or newer so most of the old school less complex stuff was no longer sold or taxied beyond their usefulness.

Also 200 miles over two days and the car sitting up for the rest of the week is far from outside the realm of a petrol car. Petrol cars generally can live a quieter life than diesels so I'd still be of the opinion that the OP will get a better condition and hassle free petrol car than diesel for their budget.

1874 & bazz thanks for the replies. Reason Im keen on a 09 diesel is for the cheap tax- I am already taxing & insuring 2 motorbikes so I want to keep costs low for a car I am only going to use 2 days a week and it would kill me to be paying 700 odd in tax for something sitting up most of the time. My intention is to own this car for around 18 months before upgrading to something else I will then drive 5-6 days a week. So for now I wanna get on the road as cheap as possible and Ill upgrade later and spend more money then.

I came across these two -
    09 Ford Focus estate, 130kms, asking 1,750
    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/09-ford-focus-nct-19-cheap-tax/20245201
    and
09 Ford Focus hatchback, 152k miles, asking 2,800
    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/09-ford-focus-1-6-tdci-econetic/20430451?campaign=3

Is there any good reason not to pursue cars like the above? I know my milage is not quite diesel territory but as said I dont want to be shelling out on the high tax of a petrol.

The 1.8 has more work to replace timing belts, think it's a wet and dry from what a guy in work said.

Both the 1.6 and 2.0 only have 1 belt seemingly.

So something to check if looking to get a good run out of them and price up maintenance.

Estate only has NCT to January so a bit of a gamble. The hatch isn't much better being till March.

I'd love to know how someone who just spent money changing the timing belt on a less than 10 year old 1.8 TDCi Focus along with other bits, claimed low mileage can let it go for 1750? As for the 1.6 TDCi Focus, you could not have picked a worse diesel engine when it comes to not taking miles, age or neglect well.

I've a feeling you will be spending a lot more on maintaining either car than you will save on a bit of motor tax. I'd rather spend a bit more on something like this:

There is no way the estate is in KM, and not miles. As mentioned, why do the belts well before time??

The 1.6 is actually a good engine if looked after correctly. That means religiously changing the oil with the recommendation oil and not other oil, like 90% of Irish and other lazy 1.6 psa diesel owners.
There is an oil pickup pipe that leads to the turbo, the gauge gets blocked (wrong oil) and starves the turbo- then bang.
It’s a design flaw yes, however it can be circumvented. Any 1.6 diesel without a reliable history at that mileage is cheap for a good reason.
Cheap tax on one hand yes. Garage bills and a non running car on the other.... no

The estate is on UK plates anyway, so it'll cost more than 1750 with VRT

Edit, receipt has an Irish reg, but who knows, if your selling a car, why use old pictures before it was VRT'd. Was it a cleaner car then? is the seller hiding something?

I wouldn't agree. Super economical, no dpf or dmf, and they don't rust.

    Perfect low-maintenance, highly economical car.

True but it's still getting old... ( But it's even nicer for not being silver)

Spotted that yesterday. It's a lovely old bus.
Price is ambitious, but at that end of the market it's splitting hairs arguing the toss over the asking price. There are plenty of far rougher examples looking for 5/6/700 bucks. Anyone looking for a reliable and easy run family motor could do far worse than this. I'd still prefer to be picking it up for closer to €1k..!!

    Talking about cheap A2's

    For consideration 1.4 petrol €450

I've bought plenty from Declan Gill. Always open to a bit of haggling! This actually interests me as much as the A2...

If the bodywork is as clean as it looks in the photos then around 1k wouldn't be a bad price. They are next to impossible to find unmarked. It's a shame it's the liftback though. If it was a 3dr i'd probably go to view it.
