UK import so be sure mileage is correct.

43mpg is laughable to be honest.

10l/100km is about it and may improve slightly on a long run but not hugely.

A years tax would nearly be the price of the car. If you intend holding on to it for a few years, might be better to factor cost of road tax into calculations . If short trips then avoid diesel cars. That said if it was close, and you wanted a bit of power...

Pity about the tax on this. Two years test, nice leather etc - €1890

If my neighbour came home with this tomorrow I'd think thats a €3-4k car

the ad is wrong. Motortax.ie has the tax at 390 a year for that car.

    09 WH 872 is down as €750 p/a alright

Its that high because its on the emissions based system and not the cc/engine size system

pity, a nice car for that price, but the road tax is a bit much !

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,685 ✭✭✭✭wonski

If the tax was 350 a year the car would be listed at 2500 euro ;)

And people would say its a bargain, too.

Wouldn't bother me. The rear discs on those caused the handbrake to have weird behaviour as far as I remember. Could pull it up much further if you don't have your foot on the brake first.

Will those Volvos run for much longer ?
Considering the mileage is so high.

If a car that was originally brought in from the UK is showing 3 previous owners, is that total owners or just Irish owners.

10l/100km is about it and may improve slightly on a long run but not hugely.

I've been running a 1.6 petrol Stilo (which should be about the same as a 1.6 focus) for the last 3 years and ive never averaged 10l/100km. Worst case of nothing other than cold start school runs/trips to shop is 9l/100km. If a 1.6 hatch from that era is only doing 10l average, then you should be getting it checked.

Average for a 200km round trip of N-roads (no motorway) without being too careful is an easy 6l/100km. 5.6 is my record. Because of the realtively low gearing in these cars, motorways will drop that to about 7.

On a side note: Yes, that bangernomics fixerupper 2004 Stilo Multiwagon that I picked up for 350 euros over 3 years ago passed its latest NCT in march only needing tyres. Still going strong! nearly 60,000kms up on it.

They don't just implode after a certain amount of miles. It depends very much on how it has been looked after and how you look after it too.

I find certain cars clock up so many miles and within a year everything just falls apart fairly rapidly.
Basically my own car has fallen apart in the space of 6 months. Regularly serviced and looked after quite well and not driven too hard (Opel vectra 07 1.6 petrol piece of ****)
And has always been quite a bit of trouble anyway.

    Doing about 180 - 200km per week.

I need something between 700 - 1800 quid that will last me precisely 18 months.
