Meh, I have had one, twas even more basic than the linked one, but I loved it. 190e is much of a muchness by comparison tbh, plus, I love toyotas..

I had a 190E as well, and I would rate the 190 as much less boring to be honest, though the seats were more comfortable in the Carina. I'm sorry I didn't hold on to the 190 actually, as it would be firmly in classic status now.

The merc 190 was a great car but tbh I can't see how you found it much less boring than the carina. Both cars are not exciting but make up for it in other ways.

Both are quality machines with the merc being more prestigious but id give the carina the edge for pure reliability and I think it's more pleasant to drive too.

    Boring is subjective i guess,

They are quite different cars to be fair, the 1.6 carina was a lot quicker and a hell of a lot more economical than the 1.8 in the merc. Both are kinda fun to drive though - in different ways.

The seats in the carina are as good a seat as i have sat in.

You can buy mine so, and ill buy that carina :pac:

    Sorry for OT folks,

When I say less boring, it would be splitting hairs to be honest, as neither were exciting in any way. I always found the Merc to be more of a drivers car. Mine used to eat petrol pumps for some reason. The Toyota was more reliable, but I found it totally uninvolving. I never rated Toyotas after that until I bought a Celica on a whim once, and had a fun year or so with it.

Hard to believe the 1 series in so the go nearly 13 years.

    Daysul, new test, looks tidy.

I think that that has one of the those 1ZZ-FE VVTi engines that you eventually end up stopping at the service station to check the petrol and fill up the oil! :D

I have a 2002 MR2 with the ZZ-FE VVTi engine that's done 110,000 miles and requires NO oil top-ups between services. Undoubtedly some were problematic but don't assume they all were.

"Loads of extras as it's an SE model"

Was the SE not the basic spec model?

ES is usually below that and on the 1 series there was an even more basic unnamed base trim level. Like VW used to do on the golf.

Another 'rina - 14 months test €950. Its a toss up over what one I'd go for if in the market, this looks a nice original one. €950 perhaps a bit saucy

I think this one is cleaner. If you look closely at the other one it seems to be showing signs of rust in places.

I thought that too (RE Rust)
Also, this one has an old-style log-book, so it's been in same ownership for quite a while. Guarantees nothing, but not a bad sign.

It depends on what way you look at it. It's obvious the seller means that it's driving well as in no ratlle or bangs etc. They are a very pleasant car to drive though.

Ah just having a laugh at it - I'm sure it drives brilliantly.

Ya the other one is starting to rust on the front wing and valance as well as around the windscreen. The one above also has a nicer velour interior and the colour coded bumpers

2.8 V6 with NCT to almost March 2018 and tax to 9/17 for €300. Even if you don't need a 7 seater it could make for a nice yoke to get around in for a while!

The only way he's going to sell that is either for "export" or to someone who isn't worried about driving an untaxed car.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,205 ✭✭✭cruizer101

Only 300 quid and 2.5 months tax on it, its basically a free car. I've only just taxed my own but if I hadn't and it was near I'd of been tempted to get it and drive for few months instead of taxing my own. That would of been a fair chunk of money new.

Brilliant find. That'd win the sleeper thread in relation to bang for buck.

In a bid to kill 2 birds with one stone a man could completely strip it out and reg it as a van resulting in chaappee tax and weight reduction bro :P
