    Is it taxed and NCT'd?? :D

    Whats crazy is that in 5 years time, everyone will want one, just like the E30 and E36

    That's why I have my '00 minter tucked up in the garage :p. I think it will take another 5-10 years for them to be worth anything of real value. At that stage they'll be all drifted and chopped up ta fcuk. As for them being a money pit, when I bought mine 6 years ago (€2K) I put a clutch, front brakes, front wishbones into it. Haven't done much else since apart from general servicing. Sure you'd have to do that with most second hand cars, even those that are only 4 or 5 yrs old.

    Has anyone here bought a car from this thread? How did it turn out? A money pit ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,456 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    I bought a Jaguar S Type from this thread about 6 years ago. Fantastic car.

    Bought and sold from this thread

    Sure older cars are always going to require bits and pieces done to them
    I had a Hyundai Coupe that I replaced a ton of electrical stuff and motors on but the parts were dirt cheap from Korea and a lot of the work could be done at home
    Sold it to someone from this thread and it was probably in better condition than when I bought it

    Haven't had anything like a money pit and most of the cars listed here will get comments on them with people's opinions so it is always good to consider that too

    Bought a peugeot from this thread, 600 quid with tax and test for 5 months and 8 months respectively. No bother so far Touch Wood!

    Bought a corolla, a xantia & a e34 5 series from this thread.

    The first 2 were brilliant, both actually turned a tiny profit (ownership profit - not just purchase price) when shifted on.

    The beemer was a pile of shíte though, but sold with no engine for €150 less than purchase price (massive ownership loss though, did I mention it was a pile of shíte?)

    Best thread on boards this, lucky ive no space or id have fields full of €500 cars :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,575 ✭✭✭166man

    Bought a car off this thread only two weeks ago. So far so good. :)

    Think I have bought from it before but can't remember.

    Definitely one of the best threads on the forum. :cool:

    It looks in pretty reasonable nick but only two months NCT would be off putting.

    High enough miles as seen on the NCT disc but if it was minded reasonably well that shouldn't make too much odds. Motoring doesn't come much cheaper.

    2002 Yaris 1.0 5dr;
    NCT 02/18;
    Asking €500

    I got a 2005 Saab 9-3 1.8 through here and it's still fantastic, I've spent on a new front passenger spring and a fuel pump, that's that. I might change it next year, it'll be 2 years with me by then.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,097 ✭✭✭johndaman66

    Speaking of Saab 9-3's...

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/2006-black-saab-9-3-150-bhp-diesel-26-9-18-nct/16729392

    2006 1.9 TID saloon;
    NCT 09/18;
    199K KM;
    Asking €1,250

    2003 Fiesta 5 dr;
    1.3 litre;
    104K miles
    NCT 05/18;
    Tax 02/18
    Asking €650

    No doubt the 1.25 is a much more modern unit than the 1.3 but I do believe the 1.3 will get the job done and is a pretty reliable unit.

    For a small caravan literally any turbo diesel yoke will do. 130bhp or up would suit best.

    Golf 130pd estate
    Octavia 130pd or 110tdi both the octavia and golf have soft springs at the back so sag quite a bit, also not big inside.

    Passat estate again 130pd or a6 estate (easier find an a6 in good shape and a good spec)

    D5 Volvo estate great engine and will pull no bother but thirsty enough and parts are dear-ish. That bit extra in tax too.

    C250td w202 Mercedes could be another option.

    If running costs are no issue then an e39 530d with the air suspension rear end would be the ultimate choice but for a small caravan it's complete overkill.

    Looks like a nice car. Over 6 months tax so effectively a 1300 car with test to February. If it wasn't for the fuel consumption I'd be interested myself.

    Serious bargain, but how the hell does a 260bhp car take 9 seconds 0-60

    Automatic gearbox slows it down?

    Seems so. Auto data for the manual gives 0-60 of 6.9, automatic is 8.2

    Nice car though!
