Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Looking at our defensive record so far this season and the changes and injuries Josie has had to deal with all season it's a fair achievement.

    Three central defenders out
    Our top goalscorer out
Our second top goalscorer (and one of our more creative midfielders) out
Played more games than any other team this season
    120 minutes on Thursday night
Rooney not played in a while
Blind not played central defence in a while
Martial not played centre forward all season
Burnley one of the best home records in the league
    2-0 up at half time
    Graeme Souness: "Not been great"

  • Souness so so bitter

Over a quarter of a century seeing your rivals lift the title instead of your club will do that.:)

Lads souness is pure bitter he can't even bring himself to say the club's name properly I couldn't give a toss.

Souness didn't seem bitter to me at all
He said they were professional but not great .

I'd agree with that it wasn't a classic performance but it didn't need to be.

Souness did a good interview on Eamon Dunphys podcast The Stand last week that is well worth a listen.

Paul McGrath on MUTV earlier was there for the phone in, one caller who I think must be very myopic wanted Joe Hart to replace De Gea if he leaves.
Paul McGrath thought it was a great idea. Joe Hart got described as being world class.

Glad to hear pal. I went to the crown bar for grub and watch the game ended up leaving after 30 minutes because they put some rugby game on.

79 points (5 wins, 1 draw from our last 6) now guarantees us at least 4th place even if City and Liverpool win out (well, City drawing with us and otherwise winning out). 78 points (5 wins, 1 loss) would go down to GD - ours is +26, both of theirs is +28 so it's extremely close.

A tall order with our run in and injuries sure, but there's the UEFA Cup route as well and it's fair to say that most/all of us would have bitten someone's hand off to be in this spot not too long ago.

Jaysus though, the uproar there would be had we been given all that injury time! :D

That's turned things around alot. I would 100 percent take a draw Thursday night now.

12 more points give us CL I reckon. 4 wins from 6, should be achievable.

There is an old saying about games at this stage of the season all being like cup finals.

Obviously poor old Kloop had a difficulty with the translation because he has taken it literally.

Despite what mourinho said about top 4, its in our hands now. Thursday is so so important now. Silva and Augero going off today could also be hugely important if they have picked up significant knocks. Christ I'm nervous already!

Bloody hell who'd have thought it.

I refuse to get my hopes up because of being disappointed so many times this season but....................I'm hopeful. :pac:

Love games like these against rivals where there is so much on the line!!! But boy will my heart be pounding out of my chest for the 90 minutes :P

I'm the same, I still don't think we will manage it between injuries and fixture's but by Christ, if we can manage a win on Thursday there is serious pressure on the others chasing top 4.

    What a glorious day :)

I still think with our injuries, fixtures etc... that we won't have enough to get top 4, but it's fun watching that lot lose anytime. Really brightens up my mood.

If we beat city then it might be time to get optimistic but I feel dropped points is almost inevitable.

I'm all footballed out now and had planned on reading a book for the rest of the evening but **** it, I'm going to tune into El Classico and cheer on Madrid.

Been a brilliant weekend of football. Obviously our game today and the Pool result but the two FA cup ties were brilliant as well.

We have two teams we can catch now. Liverpool result was huge.

I certainly wouldn't put money on it but I'm going to be blindly optimistic for the next few days before we play again. :)

    Great Sport day:

    United win
    Kilkenny women win Camogie final
    United rival loses
Kilkenny's biggest rival in hurling loses
Was happy to see Nadal winning in Monte Carlo.

The dilemma I have now is i don't know which thread I want to catch up on the most.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,495 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

I didn't get to see the game, was it a good performance or just a workmanlike one?

More specifically, did Martial and Rooney do well for the full 90 minutes or just have a few moments?

Delighted with the victory and the past week though, this squad is showing real character right now despite a few roadblocks in their way.

Exactly, thanks to the Chelsea and Burnley results, the City game is huge. Win, and the extremely difficult becomes just very difficult. Lose or draw, and well, the EL is the priority anyway.

Hopefully Liverpool drop more points on their run in. The absolute ideal is both City and Liverpool dropping out of top 4 and Arsenal finishing 4th, United 3rd.
