Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The club mentioned was Sociedad. Presume they've relaxed their basque only policy. Or are they the basque club that don't stick to basques only?

Only Athletic Club have the Basque only policy. John Aldridge and Dalian Atkinson played for Real Sociedad nearly 30 years ago.

They relaxed it back in the 80s, IIRC, because they were losing out to Bilbao for the best Basque players and they needed to be practical

Neither Herrera or Pogba can play in a two man midfield.

Pogba did against england and he was class and has done so plenty of times before.

quick scan shows nothing to horrid in terms of runs of fixtures - feel in previous seasons we have had a group of 4 massive matches in 5 or something like that - a couple of double headers. Obviously cup progression (domestically and european) might effect that in ways i've not bothered to work out yet.

Last 7 or 8 look reasonable enough. Never really bothered with the rest of them tbh. Squeaky bum time hopefully

You'd hope we'd have the CL progression wrapped up by game six. Could see a weaker team in game four too then, and focus on the other four.

I would tbh, he's the captain of the club and it's basically just cropped him out of the image.. they are using the same pictures of the other three in the image. Fair enough if they changed the image completely

For all we know Rooney asked to be removed, seriously too much time reading into him being removed from the cover photo of the clubs Facebook page.

    But that's my opinion.

Played in a midfield 2. Such a difference when there is a striker ahead of him that can stretch a defence. Rashford could be the man next season to do that. Would love to see us go back to a 442 in majority of games

Was thinking the same about the cups, but that fixture list looks very nice. Really no excuses form my initial reading of it.

Obviously take into consideration at the time about injuries or whatever, but that looks as smooth a fixture list as you will get.

Giroud played up front, if you are talking about Mbappe, he played out wide and they set up as 4231, Mbappe basically played the same role as Rashford has all season

Edit: sorry my mistake, was Dembele playing out wide and Mbappe playing in the middle off Giroud, got them mixed up

Hes not good enough to play in a midfield two. Not a hope we will play that system next season.

I'd argue the wording if I'm being pedantic! I kind of get your point though.

It's more that the preference is that he plays a more advanced role in a midfield 3 to maximize his potential.

I still think he is more than capable of a midfield 2 but that wouldn't be practical and wouldn't using him to the best of his ability.

Id be of the opinion that none of our current midfielders could play in a midfield two up to a required standard.

If United were playing a really good side then a two man midfield would be a no go anyway.

Like how Kroos and Modric need Casemiro (example).

Against more average sides then Pogba plus one would be good.

I think Pogba or Herrera could play in a midfield two, with maybe Kante beside them - or Roy Keane back in the day. Both players put in a bit of work, Herrera far more so, but neither can work together in a midfield 2, imo.

If we wanted to play Pogba as one of a two, we'd have to drop Herrera and bring in a properly defensive minded midfielder who would take some of the burden off Pogba defensively - same goes for Herrera.

As it is, I think our best bet would be a defensive midfielder to sit behind Herrera and Pogba. Give Pogba a load of freedom and reign Herrera in a bit more to work as a more box to box midfielder.

From what I have seen of Fabinho, he is the player I would go for. Hard working, good tackler, good on the ball too.
