at this rate the fragrances wont so niche :pac::pac:

I'm actually planning to do a bunch of 'superniche' splits at some stage for those who are worried about exclusivity! Kurkdjian, Malle, Le Labo, Kilian, etc.

I'll just stay up in Donegal sure. Be less common up here. :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,558 ✭✭✭Padraig Mor

moby2101 - no response to repeated payment requests - no allocation in future splits. Seriously, I think I've said often enough not to add names if you ain't gonna pony up the cash! His Atelier Poivre Electrique (already on the way) slot to TimeToShine for immediate payment, GIT #3 slot to Rjd2 - payments for this split will be requested in the coming days.

The following have been split and will ship in the coming days unless I'm waiting to include a later split in the package:
    Aventus #3
    Aventus #4
    GIT #1
    Hermes #3.

Expecting to receive Aventus #5, GIT #2, Hermes #4 and Atelier Poivre by the end of this week, or start of following week at the latest. Should be splitting these a bit quicker as, for the first time in a month, I don't have a major event at the weekend!

Payment requests for Aventus #6, GIT #3, Amouage Interlude and Atelier Bergamote should go out in a few days - need to sort an issue with Paypal first. There is one slot left for Terre d'Hermes Parfum split #5 if someone wants to fill out that split - I'll be ordering this with some of the above if the slot fills.

Hi Pat, if a space becomes available for Green Irish Tweed can you let me know? Thanks.

Here's the current lists BTW - OP to be updated shortly. Updated again 31/5.

Most Creeds currently €55 / 50ml (unless stated otherwise).
NB for VIW, SMW and Royal Oud - I expect (following consultation with those already on these lists) to reduce the number of slots available on these to five (250ml flacon), but at an extra cost of ~€5 per split. If this goes ahead, there will be two slots left on each. Confirmation shortly.
**Confirmed - price for these three now €61 per 50ml**

Yeah, wasn't 100% sure if you were actually going for it - will edit. I'm afraid the Royal Oud is now filled - just 1 slot each left in the Virgin island Water and Silver Mountain Water now. As above, price for these three has gone up to €61 to reflect increased relative cost of buying a smaller flacon.

It's suddenly very popular! I've had three requests subsequent to it filling. In fact, I'm going to list a second bottle with those requests and if we can get that full (two more slots) relatively soon, I'll just order a 500ml at the older, lower, price - my post #249 above has been updated.

Note I won't be ordering these 'extra niche' Creeds for a few weeks yet BTW.

Big batch of payment requests going out later for the following:
    Aventus #6
    GIT #3
    Hermes #5
    Amouage Interlude
    Atelier Bergamote

If you're on one of these and you haven't already sent me your details, you can make things a bit easier for me by PMing your real name / address / Eircode / daytime phone number and, most importantly, your email - thanks.

    ***Some bad news!***
I've had some issues with Paypal and the bank due to the volumes of money flowing into my accounts - they're obliged to notify Revenue under money laundering legislation apparently! While I'm not doing this for the money, I keep some aside in a 'sinking fund' to cover breakages (some decanters have a retail price approaching a grand, and I'm on the hook for it if I drop one!), purchase of equipment (I moved to all glass decanting equipment this week, for instance), purchase of fragrance and bottle samples and general making sure I'm not out of pocket! Now, it seems I have to give the taxman 50% of this - thanks Enda! - and draw up accounts, etc. The upshot of this is that prices for all new splits will go up - how much I'm not sure yet but can hopefully advise next week - I expect a moderate rise. Currently listed splits (post #249) will go ahead at their listed prices until they fill. Sorry folks - the rise ain't going into my pocket and the splits will still offer a huge discount over retail and/or a chance to 'try out' a niche scent without risking a load of money.

Slots left in ascending order of availability:
    Virgin Island Water (€61) - 1 slot.
    Silver Mountain Water (€61) - 1 slot.
Royal Oud (€55 if it fills soon) - 1 slot.
    Serge Lutens Chergui (€26) - 4 slots.
    GIT #4 (€55) - 6 slots.
    Himalaya (€55) - 7 slots.
Atelier Poivre Electrique (€40)- 7 slots.
    Atelier Oud Saphir (€40) - 8 slots.
    Amouage Memoir (€24) - 9 slots.

I'm going to drop the Creed Original Vetiver and Bois du Portugal due to lack of interest!

Aww man, that is sore. But you only pay tax on profit, which is going to be feic all when you consider your expenses.

I'm sure that other split beneficiaries can give you more accurate information; but a few years ago I declared small earnings outside of my main work by just putting the amount in the 'Income from other sources' section of my tax return. I kept the paperwork in case revenue ever came looking for it but they never did.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,881 ✭✭✭TimeToShine

Revenue are generally quite sound. You can ring them and explain what you're doing, show them the expenses and they should let you be.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,771 ✭✭✭✭keane2097

Yeah you shouldn't end up having to pay much if anything here.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,558 ✭✭✭Padraig Mor

Income is in excess of expense as I need a 'buffer' for any issues - drop a flacon of Creed etc! - so there will be (is!) a definite tax liability as I understand a sinking fund is not a legitimate 'expense' so I need to give them half of it - but next year! However, I may be able to expense some portion of my household bills to lower the tax - need to talk to an accountant to get it all sorted. Overall, between tax and accountant fees, you're looking at a few hundred 'disappearing' - not a lot, but enough to make things a bit too tight for my liking if any issues arose. I don't foresee a huge rise in split costs - somewhere up to €10 extra on your average Creed split I'd imagine but need to look over the figures and talk to an expert to get it sorted - could be quite a bit less.

Could the "sinking fund" not be seen as a capital investment to get up and running, should eliminate it from any tax liability..
    I'll drop ya a PM :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,231 ✭✭✭deandean

I’m pretty sure that your ‘sinking fund’ is to be be regarded as ‘working capital’ and not subject to tax. You only pay tax when you take the money out as profit.

Surely there's an accountant on this thread who can do Padraig a favour in this tax business - especially considering all the hours Padraig puts into this, no need for him to be on the hook for accountant fees etc.

Let along the technical side of decanting these, the thoughts of the admin overhead alone is enough to give me a headache :D

I was offered accounting advice by PM within hours of posting re the issue - thanks to the poster concerned!

At the end of the day, if tax is due on the income, it's due and I'll pay it - I don't have an issue with it and, while I'll quite happily minimise it as far as possible, I won't be attempting to evade it in any way - them's the rules! I don't see the time involved being a huge burden - once I know what I'm meant to do, it shouldn't take much time at all and may not even require an accountant. It'll just mean I need to keep better records, which I probably should be doing anyway!

Nice delivery today - I think my local courier is beginning to worry! Gotta say I really like the Atelier Poivre Electrique - quite a unique scent, looking forward to seeing what others think of it.

And actually, for my previous talk that I'm not a believer in 'batch variation', the new Aventus batch is definitely a bit different to the last! For the nerds, my 1 - 3 splits were batch 17N01, 4 and 5 are 17Q11.

  • Registered Users Posts: 22,477 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

Revolut Card could potentially be a good option for payments as well. Use the card all the time myself, and you can transfer money instantly to other people who use the app/card.

Even taking that aside, its actually a great thing. You basically get a mastercard for free which gives you great rates when using abroad or online with other currencies.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,447 ✭✭✭RocketRaccoon

I've just read good things about the 17q11 batch of Aventus, looking forward to receiving it even more now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,558 ✭✭✭Padraig Mor

Phew, all payments requests for the following gone out - if you should have got one but didn't let me know ASAP!

    Aventus #6
    GIT #3
    Hermes #5
    Amouage Interlude
    Atelier Bergamote

VIW, SMW and Royal Oud are now also all full. I'll be requesting payment for these quicker than anticipated - in a day or two. VIW should ship pretty quick as I have enough bottles for that; the others will have a little wait while I replenish bottle supplies after a new lot of splist.

Yeaa, my Aventus and Hermes were delivered this morning. I really like them both.
    Many thanks Padraig Mor.

I might try something Oud-ish next. Any recommendations?

I'm not an oud expert at all TBH. I'm wearing Oud Saphir by Atelier Cologne today (have a sample) - it's pretty light on the oud though and much stronger on leather / suede. Great frag - like a more wearable Tuscan Leather; I'd be on the list for it myself if I didn't already have a bunch of leather frags.

My Aventus 4 delivered this morning Pat, thanks again for all the effort. Haven't tried yet but judging by the smell of the bottle I'll have auld wans hanging off me in the country local tomorrow night!
