Fragrance Splits - July / August 2024
Parcel shipping
An Post tracked parcel service shipping is €11 per box – I’ll squeeze in 4 to 6 bottles depending on size. Delivery is normally next day but may occasionally take longer. Date of despatch obviously depends on whether bottles are to hand etc. I normally ship between Monday and Wednesday.
Plastic bottles and An Post shipping
You can choose to get 10ml or 20ml splits in plastic atomisers. These don't look as nice as glass atomisers (but they do have beastly sprayers!), but I can ship them via An Post’s large letter service at a considerably lower cost of €4.95 for up to seven 10ml bottles (or three 20ml bottles). Note this shipping is not tracked or insured, and is only available for 10ml or 20ml splits in plastic atomisers. Larger splits and/or glass still need to go via parcel service. Please ask for this option as early as you can, as I sometimes bottle splits before they've been allocated for logistical reasons.

Love in White for Summer (*on the way*)
Creed's Love in White is one of their top female fragrances - so they decided to make a lighter summer flanker to get more cash!. “Admit it or not, this is fancy. Like fancy shampoo smell. It is not overly complex, but it is really well done. It’s feminine, fresh, pleasant, a little creamy because of the rice notes. Lasts on clothes.”

Creed's other summer bigshot after VIW. Pretty much exactly what you'd expect from the name - neroli (soapy) dominant, with a citrus supporting cast. Unisex leaning male. “A well executed citrus freshie. Very elegant. Suitable for daytime wear in a professional environment.”

ROJA PARFUMS
Apex Parfum Cologne (in hand)
Pretty recent release from Roja, this is a masculine fragrance in a very much classical, old school mode - y'know, like they used to make them. Great pricing on this - but I only have one. “The Green Beast. Beautiful, masculine, clean, vintage foam gel, cypress fragrance with great projection off my skin. Has a very clean, well dressed mature aura to it, wouldn’t recommend to be worn by people under the age of 25, although younger people can pull this off, you just have to look the part. ” – Fragrantica user.

MANCERA
Intense Cedrat Boise (*in hand*)
Continuing the Intense theme! This time it's Mancera's iconic Aventus - adjacent Cedrat Boise but....you guessed it!.....more intense! “I LOVE Cedrat Boise, but man...Intense Cedrat Boise has something about it that gives it more depth and makes the original smell incomplete in comparison. To me it has a somewhat wet, cooling note akin to fermented fruit (in a good way) that gives it more complexity even though it smells recognizably like Cedrat Boise, which smells unique and cannot be mistaken for something else.”

AL HARAMAIN
Oud Cambodi Intense (*in hand*)
Another 'intense' fragrance blah blah blah......but wait! This one truly deserves the Intense moniker! The opening in particular takes zero prisoners in a brutal assault on your nostrils - this is the real deal (if the bottle said Amouage, you'd be looking at €400+ I'd wager) and the scent will wear you if you're no careful. But what's it smell of? Unapologetic Eastern style Cambodian oud (hence the name I guess). It's dirty, it's skanky - it's bloody great! Dries down smoother than might be expected but I'd still suggest this isn't one for the office folks. Oh, and the packaging is fantastic by the way! All in all, a bit of a bargain. “This is the closest thing I have that comes close to raw Cambodi oud. Its dirty, ugly, raw, animalic for the first hour or so and then it settles a bit. Sort of reminds me of Roberto Duran or Manny Pacqiao, a battle worn brawler of the highest order, yet exciting, tenacious and a winner all day long. If you don't like barnyard oud then leave this alone. I love it, especially with a layer of rose."

KILLER OUD
Death By Oud (in hand)
Despite the name and brand, this is actually a quite refined wood / safe oud and really quite versatile. For the price, a bit of a no brainer really. I'm going to go with the brand's description this this one as it's pretty accurate: "a very charismatic, gentleman scent with nonchalant masculinity. Killer Oud Death starts woody, spicy, smokey, rich, & warm. Like the smell of a cigar smoked by a grey haired man on a cold winter night. Then the spices reveal themselves with the unmistakable scent of oud. It's an incredible creation where woody notes, tobacco & spices amalgamate in a very sophisticated though seductive scent."

Beau de Jour (*on the way*)
Been a while since I listed this one - too long really as it's a top notch barbershop with lashings of lavender and manliness. Used to be twice the price in the Private Blend range. Fantastic fragrance, and a personal favourite “This is amazing, super fresh, and clean. It's a performing aromatic fragrance that can go with every event. It kind of reminds me of something similar to old spice but it smells high quality. Even though it's a barbershop-kind fragrance I feel all ages could wear this.” (Fragrantica).

Aventus for Her (*open split*)
It’s back again – Creed’s female flanker to their Aventus monster hit, featuring some of the Aventus notes with more floral notes. “The opening is crisp and fruity but moments later the musk and the sandalwood blend so well with the green apple and the rose. It's warm and sophisticated. At the dry-out I smell the blackcurrant and the amber with smoky hints”.

Centaurus (*open split*)
Brand new from Creed, this is nominally unisex but definitely hits masculine. One of a trio of new amber based scents, this complements it with tonka, tobacco and spices for a very nice autumn / winter scent. But is it worth the money? "Is it a sweet tobacco fragrance with the obligatory vanilla that every fragramce has today? Yes, but it's so much more than that. Off the top you get warm spices, tobacco and almost a Plummy wine vibe. That sweetness remains throughout the wear for me. It's not a screechy, headache inducing sweetness. It's smooth and wonderful. As it dries, you get the vanilla a little more, with some creamy sandalwood, and a resinous feel.".

Latest release from really rather good but under the radar house Heeley. This may be titled Cologne but strips out the citrus to focus on herbs and wood, and amps things up to eau de parfum strength. Old school to the core, but with a modern touch and suitable for any time of year. Great pricing on this - but I only have one. “Well isn’t this all kinds of wonderful. Soapy herbal, green and clean, classy and classic masculine aftershave type fragrance. My nose picks out basil, lavender and rosemary the strongest. Long lasting too.” – Fragrantica user.

Paddy’s Pick! For me, one of the very best winter fragrances out there - rum, spice, myrrh and more - can't recommend this one enough. Original packaging is about as opulent as you will find at any price. Unisex. “Fleur Universelle for me is more of a masculine scent than unisex, it is a warm spicy oriental scent with the cinnamon, myrrh and rum, it is a comforting hugging scent, it is not a loud scent as most of Lalique offerings, but an elegant one. It is not a gourmand scent by any means, and has a little sweetness as I like my fragrances to be.” – Fragrantica user.

See that that mad bottle? An absolute nightmare to decant from as I learned when I split the OG some time back! I'm back for more punishment though with this easier to wear, flanker. “This is definitely not fresh (or fre$h) but it IS a nice, sweet leathery fragrance. It manages to do the sweet/fruity leather thing without coming anywhere remotely close to smelling like Tuscan or Ombre Leather. Pretty interesting and unique for a designer scent.” – Fragrantica user.

Another banger from splits budget fave The Woods Collection. Oud, leather and rose are the order of the day here, riffing on Louis Vuitton's vastly more expensive Ombre Nomade, whilst not being a straight clone either. “Take TF Tuscan Leather, soften it down a bit, then add a hint of oud and some rose petals. This is what you are left with. It is a bit drier and less sweet.” – Fragrantica user.

Le Male Elixir Parfum (*in hand*)
First time listing a JPG, a house that completely passes me by - but I've had a number of requests for this, so here you go! A real hype monster recently apparently. “This is a beast for projection and longevity. Will definitely get you 8-10 hours and lingers on my clothes for days after. No hiding from the opening sweet vanilla notes (which I'm usually kinda meh on overly vanilla scents but there's a floral mix to this that really makes it lovely). Settles in to a slightly more mature scent after 90 minutes which is where I find the sweet spot to be. The tobacco does come through in the dry down on mine but only on skin, so for those who aren't getting it, might depend on your spray or possibly your batch” (Fragrantica).
