Totally last minute stuff, anyone know where I can get a decent communion cake before the 6th May - off the shelf I guess at this late stage

    Thanks

not sure what is in a communion cake but try SuperValu, they often take orders for cakes, we've used them in the past and they were excellent.

Since when was there such a thing as a Communion 'cake'?

Every kid that makes his/her Communion has to have a Communion cake.

It seems to have came in the Noughties.

Hey OP, don't mind the others, I had a Communion cake about 20 years ago so it's not a Celtic Tiger thing! Everything I know about cakes is from Wedding Cake makers but you could try your luck with them.

    Cupcake Cottage Anglesea Street https://cupcakecottagecorkltd.com/cakes/
Cinnamon Cottage Rochestown http://cinnamoncottage.ie/menus/ (they say 7 days notice required for celebration cakes so you should be fine)
    Maebh at Kinsale Cakery +353 85 820 9832 ( https://www.facebook.com/pg/kinsalecakery/about/?tab=page_info )
    Aunty Dee's in Blackrock http://www.auntydeescakes.com/christening-and-communion/
    Karina's Cakes in Douglas http://www.karinascakes.ie/cakes.asp?cakeID=2
Healy's in Blackpool http://healyscelebrationcakes.ie/ (just found this on Google, don't know them personally)
Cakes by Ruth in the city http://www.cakesbyruth.ie/

A few others outside of the city depending on how far you're willing to travel or how much you're willing to pay for delivery (Cherub Couture, Ms Cupcake Cork)...

Also Marks and Spencers do plain iced fruit cakes which loads of people buy for wedding cakes, stacked and decorated themselves. You can always get someone to do extra icing.

I also think Super Valu do cakes, and it also doesn't necessarily have to be a cake does it? You could also go to one of those places like Cupcake cottage and get a load of cupcakes and a stand and have a cupcake cake. I think you'll get sorted with one of the above though! Enjoy :)

I second supervalu, 10 inch sponge chocolate cake with fresh cream and decorated €35. I got it last year and it was lovely

I thought it came in with the obligatory Communion Bouncy Castle...

Actually now that I think of it, the Communion cake I'm thinking of is my brother's which was before mine, I don't think I had any at all! Apparently it was passé in our family by my Communion :P
