Best 40-50mm Carbon/alloy clinchers

Hey folks,
I'm in the market for a nice set of carbon 40-50mm wheels with an alloy brake track. Would like to keep the weight not much above 1600g if at all possible, though that's not a deal breaker as long as they are still good value for money. Budget is anywhere from €800 to €1300. I wouldn't rule out a newish 2nd hand pair. My current wheels are a set of dura ace c24's. From my research FastForward (FFWD) seem like a good set for just over a grand. Anyone have any experience with these. Any sound advice would be much appreciated.

swisside hadron 485s look lovely. I can't convince myself to pay 1000 euro for what is basically a cosmetic upgrade, but....

Thos Mavics have the widely-criticised Mavic tyres on...but you could of course just fit GP4000s.

I have a full disk back wheel and 90mm front wheel from FFWD. A lovely set that I'd highly recommend their others if these are anything to go by.

Edit: They are both tubs. No idea on what the clinchers are like.

those swisside hadrons make the most glorious sound when they get up to to speed... which is basically the most important thing when buying hoops. :pac:

I highly recommend Fulcrum Quattro Carbons. 40mm full carbon. Braking is excellent in both wet and dry and on par with my previous Zondas.

They weight 1450-1480g (mine are 1480g with Shimano freehub) but I have read reviews by owners claiming theirs are as light as 1430g.

I managed to get a new set of Zipp 404s from probikekit for about 1480 about 6 weeks back. Not likely to find them that cheap again I'm afraid but keep an eye out.

If It was me I'd try and find a second hand set of Campagnolo boras - now available as a clincher option. Braking surface on these and other newer full carbon wheels is much improved now and not far off alloy rims.

Hi have a new set of MAVIC COSMIC PRO CARBON EXALITH WHEELSET coming with my new bike that I won't need.
It's due in on the 15th May.
I'll post them up when they arrive.

I've got C50s that I got for €1200, if you can find them that cheap they're a great wheelset.

That seems like a really good deal. My only problem with them is would they be strong enough on Kerry roads with only 16 spokes on the front and 20 on the rear.

they are Mavic... bullet proof. I had the old Cosmics and they were great.
