Grange's May 2017 summary

Warm and sunny with near average rainfall.

Rainfall: Close to average rainfall, nevertheless the driest May since 2008.
I recorded a rainfall total of 48.4mm which was 93% of my average May rainfall. Despite being very close to average, it was still my driest May since 2008 in comparison with many recent wet Mays. With the exception of the 27th, much of the month was dry and any rain was very light. The 27th was the odd day out and I recorded 29.7mm of rainfall on this day which made it my wettest day for May since 2015. I had two lengthy dry spells during May, the 1st-10th & 21st-26th with no rainfall at all during any of these days. I recorded 13 wet days (days with 0.1mm of rainfall or more). Overall, a pretty forgettable month in terms of rainfall here.

Temperature: Warmest May since 2008. Highest May maximum temperature since 2010.
I recorded a mean temperature of 12.6c, +1.3c above the LTA, which made May 2017 my warmest May since 2008. I recorded 8 days with 20c or more which was a new record for May here. My maximum for May was 25.4c on the 26th, this was my highest May maximum temperature since 2010 and was my second highest on record. My maximum of 24.2c on the previous day, the 25th was my third highest May maximum temperature on record. My mean maximum temperature for May 2017 was 17.7c which was +3.0c above the average. This was also a new record for May. In comparison, my mean minimum temperature was 7.5c which was just +0.7c above the average. Minimum temperatures weren't anything exciting. My minimum for May was -1.1c on the 10th and was my highest minimum since 2014. I recorded a minimum of 13.1c on the 16th however which was one of my warmest May nights on record. On the 24th, I bet this with a minimum of 14.1c which made it my warmest May night on record. Overall, a very interesting May temperature wise here.

Sunshine: Second very sunny May in a row. Second sunniest on record.
I recorded a sunshine total of 243 hours which was 128% of my average May sunshine. This made May 2017 my second sunniest on record (only 2000 was sunnier) and also the second consecutive very sunny May. May 2016 was my previous second sunniest on record with a total of 241 hours, May 2017 marginally bet that by 2 hours. For the first 11 days, I recorded 124 hours of sunshine which was already 65% of my full May mean monthly sunshine. This meant that it was my sunniest start to May on record. The rest of May wasn't anything particularly remarkable with a total of 119 hours from the 12th-31st. My sunniest day was the 10th with 14.5 hours of sunshine. I did not record any completely overcast days during May though the 12th and 27th were close with 0.2 hours on both days. I recorded 12 very sunny days (days with 10 hours or more) which was above my average for May of 7 such days.
