You need to read a fascinating article in The Guardian recently about "London Bridge Has Fallen".

You don't need to watch a mediocre film, London has Fallen. It will just about do if its a rainy afternoon or you're a massive Gerard Butler fan.

I was hoping it was an emergency meeting to have Theresa and Boris put into the Tower, however it turns out that the real reason is the Queen's briefing staff on a Buckingham Palace refurbishment project.

The amount of hype and speculation in the media was a bit overkill!

There's 10 jobs being kept for 100 workers so they're arranging a Hunger Games to decide who stays. BBC3 will have full nightly coverage.

    What a load of b0ll0x......

......it's the Royal Family.......it won't be hunger games.......it'll be jousting and sword fights, and flails and maces......like this, only for keepies :D

A bunch of them have probably been made redundant. Bloody Brexit.
In all seriousness, this is probably the most likely thing. With Liz getting on in years, being less active, and the grandkids being more cosmopolitan and self-sufficient than royals in years gone by, they probably have twice the amount of staff they really need.

There we go whoever said Prince Philip would be stepping down from public engagements was right

The Sun put up a placeholder article in expectation of Prince Philip having died, but accidentially published it. The headline is now the top result on Google 😂

Meaning he's dead and they've replaced him with a cardboard cutout so the queen can draw two pensions.

Fair play to him. Enjoy your retirement Phil.

Would that necessitate an "emergency" meeting though?

Not really, but from a logistical perspective of getting all staff in the same place at the same time it might be seen as best practice to ramp up the urgency.

It says a lot about The English Media when this actually makes front page news.

I thought it was going to be another jimmy saville/rolf harris type announcement. It really wouldn't be surprising, it seemed to be the done thing in Britain in the 70's/80's.

Read the guardian article. This isn't the way significant information is released. Unless it's totally changed.

I'm sure something is up that effects the staff of the royal family.

Also an emergency meeting isn't a meeting about an emergency. It's just a non scheduled meeting.

Well I was right. It didn't have that much to do with staff after all.
You don't call an emergency meeting unless something is up.
Its not that significant but noteworthy nonetheless. The man has earned his retirement at this stage.

He woke the queen up at midnight with the full royal guard dressed as Sto?truppen screaming May the fourth be with you. Lizzy has had him sectioned and he will meet with George Lucas for reeducation.

Harry's going to have to step up and start making more royal gaffes.

He would appear to be the natural successor to Prince Philip in this regard.

Without those they might as well just declare a republic and be done with it.

    I mean, it's basically a state-funded live soap opera.

It is, but then again he is retiring from being a professional tourist essentially.

What have these people ever done? They just go around visiting places and live in a massive house without having to cook or clean for themselves? It's hilarious seeing the Brits fawning over them! They've been taken for mugs.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 910 ✭✭✭BlinkingLights

Brits being Brits - it's an odd mental state to get your head around. One minute they're a modern, progressive democracy, the next they're worshiping the old lady who owns the place and seeing nothing odd about the Lords Spiritual (bishops in the upper house of the parliament).

It's a bit of an enigma of contradictory facts and ad hoc arrangements that only make sense in context.
