Excel opening CSVs with wrong delimiter

    Hey,

A colleague of mine is using the same version of Excel as everyone else in office (2013) and uses a lot of the same files. We have a bunch of CSVs we use, they are always comma delimited. For some reason her excel opens them expecting tab delimited, meaning the content does not properly appear in table form until she uses the text to columns functionality.

Any idea how to change her settings?

It can be influenced by a setting under windows control panel.
Check that the Region is set to English (Ireland).
Region \ Formats tab \ Advanced Settings button ->
Customise Format Window \ Numbers tab \ List Separator should be a comma

    From 2016 excel help

Change the separator in all .csv text files

1.In Microsoft Windows, click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.

2.Open the dialog box for changing Regional and Language settings.

3.Type a new separator in the List separator box.

    4.Click OK twice.

Note: After you change the list separator character for your computer, all programs use the new character as a list separator. You can change the character back to the default character by following the same procedure.

Also there are 2 different ways on opening cvs file in excel - make sure you open it in the same way as your colleague.

Aces! That worked, for some reason her region settings were English (Ireland) but the list separator was a semi-colon...
