    2 questions folks

    1) Are they only selling the 5 now ?

    2) Girlfriend os going to china for a while.... anyone know if its easier and cheaper to pick up a 3t in china ? or even a 5 for cheaper ?

1 . On the offical oneplus site it's just 5's they're selling . 3t can be purchased on other sites however.

    2. Not a clue I'm afraid

Really tempted to pull the trigger on this. Want something different.
Had my Samsung S7 robbed and got an insurance replacement and was going to sell it on.

Would I really be getting a better phone in the OP5 though is one thing I can't seem to figure.
Was going to get the 499 option.

I take a fair few photos of the kids, but the bulk of my need is battery and power to use a wide amount of apps. I use lync and outlook for work.

Any one line thoughts appreciated before I spend 500 on it!

The battery life is meant to be quite good according to reviews. Should last a full day with heavy use all day. Uses fast dash charging too.

I can't see the camera matching the S7, especially for pics of kids if they're young and move around a lot.

I don't know if they have improved their logistics in the year since I bought the oneplus3, but last year my order was still processing, while I had the phone in my hand! :pac:

You'll get a text from DHL, letting you know when they are making the delivery :)

On mobile, so can't link proper, sorry. It looks good in the pictures, but not sure what it'd be like on the phone. But it's inexpensive, so worth a look as my OPO is still rocking the diztronic without issue.

Should have ordered it when I ordered the phone yesterday :(

If the Karbon bumber case which comes with my welcome pack isn't up to the job I'll be investing in one of these. Not pretty but built to provide protection.

I had the same Diztronic bumper case on my original OPO as Benzino and it protected it against all kinds of falls for 2.5 years. It was like having an F1 tyre wrapped around the phone.

When I bought an UMI Z Pro as a temp phone waiting for the OP5 to come out I put a skinny case onto it. Dropped it the very first day and smashed the screen. 6 weeks to get a replacement screen from Ali Express during which time I had to crawl back to my OPO and it's Diztronic case!!

I'm a bit conflicted on whether to get the OP5. I was all ready to purchase at launch, until I noticed the price increase.

At 499, it's not that far off other Android flagships.

Far more indecisive on what to get now, which is the opposite of what I wanted the OP5 to do for me.

I think I'll just swap my OPO for one of the many second hand 3Ts that'll be floating about now

What Android Flagship is if far off with dual camera dual sim 128Gb memory and 8Gb of Ram for 560 Euro.
    I cant think of any.

Also regarding the camera, you can bet OnePlus will be updating the Camera's firmware very soon as they get more feedback so take early reviews of it with a sack full of salt.

If hardware specs are your main concern, you're correct.

But the LG G6 is catching my eye as a solid alternative. And the G6 Plus will be out next month with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, with the option to expand via microSD.

I'm not saying the OP5 isn't great - but I feel like it's less of an obvious choice now with the price increase. Options are more blurred.

Maybe you feel differently though - I'd love to hear why, as I was all set to buy the OP5 until yesterday.

Why do you need 6 or 8GB of RAM. Does it really make that much of a difference over 4GB.

I already gave you reasons why they are not for that price point.

I get that the LG G6 and G6 Plus are good alternatives offering less out and out performance but more in terms of water proofing and SD car expansion so in pure € terms depending on what's important to you the G6/G6 Plus may offer better value for money for your needs but one thing I genuinely can't figure out is how anyone with a 128gb phone could place any value on the ability to buy an SD card for expansion. How many movies/TV series do you want to carry around with you at any one time?????

Decision made for me was mulling over cancelling it all morning but it's dispatched now with estimated delivery Friday. Went with the 64gb version. Was more than I was planning to spend as I was hoping to keep the budget closer to €300 but reckon it's worth in the long run. Few initial concerns about camera from first reviews I've read but have seen some more favourable reviews and comparison videos since. It will improve too with software updates

Missed the welcome bundle while dallying over deciding whether to order. Got a flip case. I'll see how I get on with it would have preferred the back case and screen protector. Bundle was great value with cable and headphones. Will probably still end up buying a dash car charger and down the line so might get a different case then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,806 ✭✭✭54and56

Anyone know if there is a screen protector pre attached to the phone? One of the video reviewers said his came with a screen protector already attached and that was after he removed the film which shows you where the power button is etc.

If not does anyone know if the glass screen protector included in the welcome bundle is handy enough to fit? I'm a disaster when it comes to fiddling around with stuff like that and usually end up with it all finger marked and misaligned and in the bin 5 minutes later :o

Mine is scheduled for Friday. I ordered within 30 seconds of the Clearer Photos code being revealed during the live presentation and I live in Dublin. HTF can my phone take a day longer to arrive than you lads? Where do ye live? Next door to the 1+ warehouse?????

Would definitely agree that the LG G6 is probably the main other great alternative to the OP5 at the price-point. It wouldn't be as fast as the OP5 but probably has a better camera and the edge-to-edge display is definitely a high point. I'm not really familiar with LG's flavour of Android so can't comment on that. I don't see why waterproofing is an essential flagship feature all of a sudden these days, I remember back when you had to purchase "Active" versions of phones to get that. Don't think I've ever lost a phone to water damage.

I got swept up in the hype yesterday and ordered the 8gb OP5, arrival date is 23rd. I've been going back and forth between buyers remorse and a lack of ever since, what with reading reviews and general online reactions. I don't see how a phone can make use of 8GB's of RAM but was really on for the black version and could definitely make use of the extra storage space. Coming from a OnePlus X. Guess I'll know for sure how I feel about it once I have it in hand, can always return if I feel it was too much of an impulse buy!

When I got the 3t it was already on it when it was delivered. Hopefully it'll be the same with this one also.

It was just the 22nd when I checked earlier. I ordered about 6pm yesterday evening.

Regarding the "screen protector", is it tempered glass?
I have to the the screen protectors that have come pre installed on my last couple of phones (Oppo R7 plus & LeEco Le Max2) are absolutely brilliant and neither are tempered glass. the fact it has one pre installed is the best thing, I'd make a mess if I had to put it on myself!

I doubt the LG competitor has dual SIM? A must for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,215 ✭✭✭harney

I almost bought it at the start but while considering it the bundle had sold out and it was asking me to remove it. I closed out of the window., and decided against buying it.

I've just gone back now to re-consider ordering and as I was adding things to the cart I noticed that the welcome bundle was in my cart still, but not out of stock. So, I've just managed to order the phone with the welcome bundle!

You can't seem to add a new welcome bundle, but if anyone still has it in their cart they may be able to purchase it.

What was in the welcome pack? I skipped over all that and just order the phone

Well the battery in the 5 is smaller so you won't see any benefit in an upgrade.

He has a OP3 so its 300 mAH bigger, that and the ram and chip is more power efficient, and they apparently worked hard on battery optimization.

I'd wait to see what us boards users say about the battery first, rather then the review :) More real world

Well ... according to GSMArena.com's review, battery longevity from usage is better than OP3T but stand-by and talk-time are worse so your experience will depend on how you use the phone e.g. if you're doing a lot of web-browsing then you'll get a lot further with the OP5 than the OP3/OP3T

But you also get 128GB storage with the 8GB, that's a nice upgrade and worth the price alone.

What I found interesting in that review is they said other Snap835 devices did better on standby and talk time. Hopefully that means there's a bit more optimisation left in the 5's battery, with updates.

Not exactly; they said that their experiences with S835s and standby/talk-time was similar across the board and therefore most likely not down to OnePlus but something chipset specific. I believe that they also saw this with Kirin 960 which is closely related to S835 in terms of cores

Haha, I picked that up completely wrong!

Bit disappointing, really, was expecting the 835 to be a big improvement over the 820, battery wise, in all respects, given the manufacturing process.

It seriously is. The HTC U11 has miles better battery than the 10, with the exact same battery size, and the U11 has a bigger screen. Some of this might be due to android 7.1.1, but the chip definitely seems a lot better.

Overall you are getting the the same or better battery endurance in general usage patterns but with a good bump in performance. A bigger battery would have been nice but such is life. I'm more concerned by the camera but, since I've ordered one, I'm hoping that software updates will improve some of the image processing that seems to be to blame
