Tikka T3, Date of manufacture?

Does anyone know how to read the serial numbers on a Tikka? Can't figure out the DOB of the rifle and Google ain't saying much.

Apologies. However, I guess that now you know that your rifle is safe [hah], you can call Beretta SPa and ask them.

OTOH, I'm unable to find ANY serial number/date information.

Is it a vitally important piece of knowledge that you just have to have for some reason?

Tikka unlike Beretta or Sako, just don't give out this information.

I sent them a message on Facebook and they asked for the serial number, waiting for their response.

Sorry, should have been clearer.

You can get info on Beretta and Sako from Websites including their own, but Tikka don't put that info "out there" to just look up. not that i've seen anyway.

Since 1993 Tikka is merged with SAKO and SAKO is owned by the Beretta Group.

The returned my message, Rifle was made in 2005, which I find strange as it was bought new 2 years ago, could have it really been in factory storage for 10 years?

Somehow i doubt it. Although it could have sat in the dealers, etc. for some time, but 10 years seems excessive.

When you bought it new did you get the cardboard box and other stuff the gun comes with from the factory? Anytime i've bought a new rifle it came with the box, booklet, tools, warranty, etc. that is all packaged in the factory.

The guy I bought it from said he bought it new, maybe he was lying.

Its possible the rifle was moved around before sitting in the RFDs for some time before being sold.

I've seen, and once bought a, firearms that were over 5 years old when bought new, but i got all the boxes, paperwork, etc. that come with them.

Either he knew the gun was not new, was told it was, it was actually new but sat for that long or is wrong on when he bought it.

A gun being older than you think is not a major cause for concern except for one reason. Model. If it's the same model as is currently being produced then there is no issue. However if the model was changed or upgraded then any firearm that is bought for new price, but should be less because of devaluation due to a newer model being released, is most likely too expensive.
