Hi just posting here in the hopes someone has experienced same or knows a solution to my issue. I would have had very dry skin over the years to the point where it would be peeling around my forehead and nose area. I had gotten it under control until recently and this is where I am stumped as to what I can do.
I had an image consultation back in March and she recommended different products for me. I could only afford one so I got the Ageless Cleansing Gel and said I would go back for the other products. To be honest at the time of the consultation my skin seems to be a combination type as my forehead had gone oily but the beautician said my cheeks were dehydrated. I don't think the cleanser is much good as any face feels very tight after using it.

The problem is that at the moment my skin feels quite normal and there are no dry patches visible. When I go to put on my foundation it sinks into my skin and it's full of dry patches on my nose, cheeks and forehead. I've tried 4 different foundations I own and I have the same problem with all, even though these foundations worked really well in the past.

I invested in the image spf last week so I am using that along with some products from The Ordinary. My routine is as follows:
Morning: Wash with image cleanser, The Ordinary Buffet and Hyaluronic Acid, Image SPF, Eucurin 5% urea moisturiser
Evening: Wash with Image cleanser, The Ordinary Buffet. I use The Ordinary Retinoids 2% and Lactic Acid 5% on alternate evenings. I use The Ordinary Rosehip Oil followed by the Eucurin Moisturiser.
I use The No.7 Hydration Mask once a week. I would have thought my routine was pretty good and it's working to an extent as my skin feels nice and soft normally, but when I go to put makeup on all these dry patches come from nowhere.
Any advice or recommendations would be great.

Hiya. I've used both Benefits Porefessional and No7 illuminating primer and the dry patches still seem to appear unfortunately.

The biggest tip I can give you is to moisturise your skin, wait about a minute and then apply your foundation.

I use Estee Lauder DoubleWear and have been using it for the past 7 years.

When I first bought it it, I just applied it straight to my face and it sank in immediately and showed up my fine lines and dry patches.

Then I started applying it to freshly moisturised skin and it has made a huge difference.

It glides on so smoothly because it has something to cling to and gives me a flawless dewy finish.

So while I can't offer you specific advice on your dry skin, I would suggest you try the moisturiser trick too.

PS: Don't let the moisturiser dry too long. Literally wait a minute and that's it.

I use Johnson's 24hour Essentials Daycream, €5, in a white tub with a pink lid.

I suffer with chronic dry skin, its very annoying and ive used so many expensive products over the years that did nothing to help. My routine now consists of mostly natural products which are working very well for me.

If youre interested, this is what I use..
I take my makeup off with virgin coconut oil and do a hot cloth cleanse with soap and glory peaches and clean, spray my face with glycerin and water, spray with avene thermal water spray and moisturise with a thick cream, usually palmers cocoa butter, I think its amazing, I then put vaseline over particularly dry areas but this is usually my whole face.

Once a week I stream my face over the sink for a few minutes, this hydrates my skin.
I then throw in a cup of organic porridge oats into the hot water, let it sit for 30 seconds then wash my face with the oats - This is used for people with eczema, its really moisturising and lightly exfoliates.
If I have a good moisturising face mask to hand i'd put it on at this stage then wash off with warm water.
I then tone by splashing cold water onto my face.

I then spray the glycerin and the thermal water spray and moisturise with palmers cocoa butter. This routine has been working really well for me. Drinking more water helps too.

It sounds like allot but only takes me 20 minutes.

You might like a hydrating primer for your dry areas but tbh ive tried most of them and dont notice a big difference. Smashbox and bare minerals do hydrating ones.

Use hydrating foundations like Bourjois healthy mix serum, Giorgio Armani Luminous silk, mac face and body, Max factor pan stick is hydrating too and only powder your oily areas.

What foundation are you using? Some foundations show up tiny little marks and dry patches I didnt even know I had, it might not be your skin thats the problem you might be just using the wrong foundation for your skin type.

Hey, I'm a skincare specialist and I'm currently working with Image and to be honest the Ageless cleanser is way too much to be using everyday. I would only recommend using it twice a week. If your super dry with no Oilyness use the Vital C cleanser, if your combination dry:oily use the ormedic cleanser. I would also recommend the anti-aging vit C serum it's quite hydrating also. I love the ordinary skincare range as well, their primer is great! Image have a hylaronic serum that you can buy, it's gives you a great plumping effect during the day you just add a dropper to your moisturiser. I realise I sound like an Image rep but I honestly do love the range and iv used so many ranges over the past 10 years. Making sure your eating your fruit & veg as well as your water is important as they contain water also which stays in your system unlike when you need to wee water out 🙈😂 have you tried any supplements? image have YANA which is great! Also I would defo start doing some regular treatments until you get your skin balances. The image ormedi, & signature lift peels would be perfect for you. Hope this helps 😊

I think you need to reassess what you are using rather than adding anything new in.

Your skin sounds like mine when i had some dermatitis on my forehead - you couldnt see it until makeup went on. Nothing looked right on my skin.

Something you are using could be causing a low level irritation to your skin. I would peal back the routine to the minimum and go from there. Skip makeup for a while too.

I would avoid any of the suggestions that say peels/Vit C actives/"treatments" would help also. You are only going to aggravate your skin with those.

Also how long have you being using the 2% retinoid? This could be the issue.
