Can anyone recommend a relatively store bought veggie burger?

    Hi,

I am slowly but surely introducing more and more fresh fruit and veggies to my diet whilst at the same time cutting down more and more on meat, I know this is a vegetarian forum so although I am not saying I want to remove meat from my diet completely I am sort of evolving that way quite naturally. I enjoy the lightness I get from eating non meat produce, I am at the stage of not eating meat every second day and I will see how I go from there.

Of course there has to be alternatives to those frequent days of being meat free and this is where I need some advice. I have been eating the Linda Mcartney veggie burgers which I really love but looking at the ingredients on the pack makes me uneasy, yes they are really tasty but very much a processed food with huge levels of fat ,bad oils and salt.

I do try to cook fresh most days but there are times when it's just a lot easier to throw a veggie burger under the grill, my question is does anyone know of a store bought alternative to the LM range that perhaps is not quite so full of additives? Something a bit healthier? I realise this may be a contradiction in terms but if there is something that anyone can recommend I would appreciate the advice . Thanks!

Haven't tried them myself but Moodley Manor do burgers - available in alot of SuperValu stores and imagine they might have less additives in them! Here's their website (http://moodleymanor.com/) they probably have the list of ingredients up there somewhere or on their Facebook page

Hey thanks so much for this, there is so much less bad stuff in them compared to the LM stuff, time for a trip to Super valu!

Have you tried Dee's Burgers? They're not cheap, but they're good!

They do a Kale and quinoa burger in Dunnes.. not so much a meaty burger.

Can't remember the name of the brand but they have a range in the Frozen food fridges

Alternatively, you could get quorn veg sausages and pop them in a bun.

Havent tried the veggie burger itself but Aldi do a spicy bean burger that is bloody delicious. Think its about €1.50 for 4 good sized ones. Think they definitely have a veggie burger version too.

I did not like those burgers at all :( The brand is Strong Roots. I tried them more than once, but I ended up throwing out half the bag, which is not like me.

I got lots of Quorn stuff recently 'cause I love the flavour, but I realised they're now made with palm oil, which I've been trying to avoid whenever possible. Has anyone else noticed that the ingredients seem to have changed compared to a few years ago?

The frozen vegi burgers from Aldi are OK but as you said the spicy bean burger delicious, they have an identical lidl version of the spicy bean burger, Ive been eating them once a week for ages and still like them

I think you are mistaking a shorter ingredient list for a healthier food. What exactly do you think is the bad stuff in LM burgers?

Tesco also do a similar and very nice spicy bean burger. All 3 are equally nice, IMO.

I remember a time when the only place you could get spicy bean burgers was in Burger King!

I've heard good things about the Cauldron Vegan Burger but have yet to come across it.

Dunnes Stores have Cauldron brand, on sale currently/very recently (never tried them myself)

Great Foods do a falafel and a quinoa burger that're pretty good. The only place I've seen them stocked is Dunnes Rathmines. The Hopsack right beside it have a load of different veg substitutes too, but tend to be costly.
