Tip #1 make sure your Garmin is charged!
Extremely important, especially as I've noticed that my (nearly 2 year old) Garmin lasts for only about 4 hours 15 minutes even when fully charged...so will have to charge it until the point of leaving my hotel room at 7am....

I find a small microfibre towel handy, especially if its been raining. I also throw in a pair of compression socks and clean dry runners.

And baby wipes probably too! Handy to freshen up!

    Ok brain dump.

Print off your confirmation for your number
Collect number nice and early at the expo
Eat;sleep and hydrate well for the week
Good nights sleep Friday....you will be excited Saturday.
    Charge Garmin/Phone
    Remember the clocks change
Lay out all your gear Saturday
    Pin number to t-shirt Saturday
Get all your nutrition;gels etc ready Saturday
Put your number on your bag for the bag drop
Change of clothes/baby wipes and food/drink into bag.
    Set 3 alarms!
Know how you are getting in on Sunday well in advance.
Arrange spot for seeing your family/supporters on route....if they are giving you gels etc make sure they have them
Get your supporters to download the tracker app
Arrange a meeting point for after the marathon
Up in the morning for your normal pre marathon breakfast.
2 (at least) pit stops before leaving the house and another one before starting.
Breath slowly and visualise your marathon on the way to the start line.Know your plan.
    STICK TO YOUR PLAN.

I am sure there is more.....most importantly.....smash it out the bloody park you have got this covered!!!

When the going gets tough smile and get through it even outside your family and friends you have a huge support network here who is rooting for you.

Run tall and proud take in the atmosphere and high five the kids along the route.

And make sure you’ve enough memory left on your Garmin!

Arrive to Merrion Square. Hug my family. Kiss my pregnant partner's belly. Have a beer. Start every story with "When I did a marathon..."

I would keep that one out of the maternity ward. :pac::pac:

Still unsure of race pace. Trained for 04:29:59 and LSRs and Pace runs went well but beginning to have doubts.

Got new runners a few weeks ago, same model but only realized after a few runs that the toe box is wider. Don't feel as comfortable in them and have a sore foot.

    Ok brain dump.

Great post. Though you forgot spending most of Saturday getting an elaborate tattoo on your arm with the directions to McGrattan's for post-DCM pints :confused::confused:

Took a few days away to catch up with non running things with friends to keep the mind from going into overdrive.

The last few pages of the thread make for riveting reading!

Ariana, Leesider, Damo - hope all is getting better on the injury front for you guys!

As for times for previous distances, I've thrown my times below:

    10k: 46 mins
    10m: 78 mins
    HM: 103 mins

Ah I can't think any more about pacing strategies. F@#k it, just going to keep my Forrest Gump approach and just run and hope it works out. One of the things I love about running is the simplicity of it. Shut down the brain, live in the moment and put one foot in front of the other!

Maybe do DCM in the old ones? I’m considering the same. Plenty mileage left in mine though.

Oh God. The whole thing of where the 4hr pacers will be will start again. They tweeted that it's Wave 3 and then they post stuff out indicating Wave 2.

From looking at strava the majority of gps watches seem to measure the race at 42.4/42.5 km , thats fairly accurate considering its gps and people don't run the racing line , if you are following your gps watch (and not the pacers) and want to hit a specific time its something to consider ill have to run 2 seconds per km quicker to allow for this.

I'm in Wave 3 (blue). I'm pretty sure when i entered Wave 3 was 3:59-4:29 whereas that sheet indicates 4:05-4:35 which puts the 4:30 pacers at the back of wave 3 instead of in Wave 4 as expected. It doesn't make much odds to me at this stage but it is confusing

They tweeted that the sheet above was a mistake, that it was a copy of 2016. The times on the entry of sub 3:40, 3:40-3:59, etc are the accurate waves. Lazare queried it with them.

Good to see positivity , the best races I've ran I've limped to the start line don't underestimate the adrenaline if your close go for it . I'm kinda worried i'm not in pain now! my recent 5k pb i couldn't hold a jog to the start line.

My 2 cents if i've pains I don't go to a physio I try to listen to my body , this is probably not great advice but it has helped me run pain free even in the middle of runs where I have developed pain , if it helps fine if not ignore it im not a doctor.

If I get pains anywhere I generally try to increase my leg turnover try to run with your legs landing below your body and not outstretched in front of you , this is often a huge help to me and most of the time is a big help, try to run light and keep good form , if I get calf pain I actively try to use other muscles so try to use my thigh muscles concentrate on pulling them up and down.

Hopefully you can do it , if you did 8 miles on your own in pain its possible you can do it with really good running form. Good luck

There is a big difference limping to the start line of a shorter race than limping to the start line of a marathon ( which in my view would be reckless and a recipe for trouble).

Ariana listen to the advice of the Physio.....hopefully you get some good news today. As we have already said there will be other marathons if you don't make this one.

Fingers crossed for some good news!

I'm just off the phone to the marathon office. They are horrified to see what's on their own website! Plan is for Wave 2 to be up to 3:59 and 4 hour pacers at front of Wave 3. They're gone to check what the cock-up is and will ring me back.

I often think this too and often reference Forrest Gump!! If I start to over think it I get stressed and overwhelmed by the all the information. So I'm going to just start slow and keep running as long as I can and hope its enough!

Confirmed that the flyer and website are wrong. Website being amended asap. The 4 hour pacers will be in Wave 3. Waves are as per entry form.
