This carb loading stuff has me all over the place and I haven't really got a clue about it haha. What should we be eating tomorrow, and when?? It's one thing I wish I looked into a bit more.

Best of luck to all running on Sunday. Last one I did was 2012 so i almost feel like a novice myself this year again.

Hope you all have a great experience and come back looking for more!

The other thing to remember for you in particular is that you won't be running hard by your standards because of the injury. Just as carb loading wouldn't be needed for a 26 mile walk it's not so critical in your case either. Carb loading essentially helps you run beyond the wall, or the bonk as it's sometimes known, at race pace. You'll not be doing race pace for you.

There's a bloke in the official magazine (page 24) who is heading for his 700th marathon...

Dave Brady isn't just any old bloke, he is a true gentleman.
Btw., last year's DCM was his 600th and two years ago it was his 500th.

But think of it that way: there was the day when Dave was about to run his first marathon, and he was just as nervous about it as you are now!

That's gas, I was spectating last year at Fosters ave and he came towards me in a little bit of trouble. I started giving him a bit of encouragement telling him he only had a little bit to go, he could do it etc. Basically giving him advice, having never ran beyond 6 miles myself.

Morto when I saw '600th Marathon' on the back of his t-shirt. :pac:

I'm not going to lie to you I haven't a clue either , it's the only aspect of everything I've learned here that I'll be ignoring. I think it's probably too much of an exact science for a novice. I tried to eat more tonight than usual as I have been ill and haven't been eating, I just felt sick eating too much.

They say we have enough glycogen stores for 20miles roughly so with the extra rest and normal eating I don't see how we can store more than 20 miles worth of glycogen if 20 miles is max ? I think eating normal and regular meals should suffice if you can do 20 miles in training then the main thing for me is topping up the glycogen levels before you run low on marathon day.

All my long runs have been first thing pre breakfast I would take running on an empty stomach all day long over running bloated. I'm not arguing with the experts I'm sure there is science to it but I fear some are going to over eat and feel bloated and sluggish at start.

I fear that person may be me! :pac: I now have nearly 36 hours to deflate!! By the way glycogen stores only last 80-90 minutes. I'll be impressed if you're passing the 20 mile mark then.

:) passing it in an ambulance if I'm there at 90 mins !
One thing I believe (probably wrongly ) is 20miles is an arbitrary number nothing magical is going to happen your body , I'm sure there's a certain thing that if you tell people it's going to get tough at mile 20 they will expect it and almost plan for that slowdown.

Bit of nerves, bit of taper madness? Try not to worry so much. We've done virtually everything we can now, at least where the running part of our preparation is concerned. I for one can't wait. It may even be the adventure of a lifetime :D

[QUOTE=skyblue46;105103574By the way glycogen stores only last 80-90 minutes.[/QUOTE]

Depends entirely on pace;) About two hours at Aerobic Threshold, A bit of useless jargon for now but that's about the intensity Eliud Kipchoge runs a marathon at, us mere mortals are a different story:). The amount of glycogen you burn on a run depends on the intensity of the run. the faster you run, the more glycogen you burn as a ratio of fat:glycogen per mile or time. the slower you run, the more fat you burn in that ratio. Everyone, whether 8 hour or 2 hour marathon should have enough glycogen if they pace it right.

And finally, Best of luck to all you guys on Sunday! Hope everything goes well for all of you and probably most importantly of all, enjoy every moment and take in the atmosphere. Dublin is a great race with great support and it really is something special as thou hit those last 3 miles. See you guys on the flipside!:)

Also a point to note for anyone traveling from the North Side there are no trains running; just posting in case anyone missed this.....I am sure you have the logistics planned at this stage though.

Nearly there now . Something else just crossed my mind from my prep last year.
If any of you plan to have a supporter meet you on the course to give you food make sure you prearranged exactly where you plan to meet . Eg meet just past the 13 miles marker on the right hand side of the road , that will allow you take appropriate position on the road on the run in to that marker , otherwise with the crowds of support on the coarse it will be very easy to miss them.

After 4 nights of tossing and turning I slept reasonably well last night tg. Think the physio really helped calm me yesterday. He's back room staff for a county gaa team so he must've picked up some psychology tips :)

Still feeling blocked up but not panicked as I'm not bothered about my time with the knee. I wish it was today, I just want to run run run :)

    Good morning all!!

Just another well wisher passing by to leave best wishes for all novices. Take the banter and humour from this thread with you regardless of your dream time. Tomorrow will be a day to cherish, nerves and all, and that you should feel justifiably proud to have taken on such an epic journey. Oh the experience of the marathon- hold it all.

My tip: Lift you head up going through the crowds and take it all in as there is a lot of goodwill out there. You will feel the adrenaline surge and it helps the journey.

I was the same Damo, keep thinking about the clocks going back and if my phone will change automatically!! And my OH decided to turn on every light in the bedroom at 12am just to make sure I wasn’t asleep
Tonight the Samhain Festival is on right across the road from my house :(

MDay -1 now; crazy to think how quickly the last few months have flown by;it has been great to be a part of this journey with all of you. This time tomorrow you will feel the huge buzz that is around Dublin on marathon morning.....cherish every single last second of the day.....running your first marathon is a once in a lifetime experience.....you are going to be part of something really special.

Take some time today to reflect on what you have achieved over the summer;look at your initial post on the thread and see how far you have all come.

You are ready and you are going to do this....have no doubts about this.....no negative thoughts allowed from Wubbles Wonders!!

Positivity all the way; there is a good chance that at some point tomorrow things will get tough; dig deep into the memory banks when this happens;remember all the sacrifices you have made to get here....all the early morning training runs and all you have done to get to this point. Run tall and proud with a big stupid grin on your face.

You all know the script for tomorrow have your plan in place and stick to it; conservative for the initial part of the marathon and push on in the latter stages if you are feeling good. Some will meet their targets and some won't at the end of the day your time is just an number you will have just run a marathon and moved from Novice to Graduate!! This is the big achievement and the end goal....there will be other marathons to chase times.

Look after yourselves today nothing to hectic or stupid.....have everything prepared early doors today...no need for any last minute dramas in the morning!

I will be out watching cheering you on from the side lines tomorrow in Chapelizod just after you cross the Liffey at the 10 mile mark about 100m down the road on the right hand side.....look out for the red headed lad that will be me! Don't be afraid to give me a shout out!

Let's do this;put your months of hard training to work and get the reward you deserve.

    Craig

Last little 2m jog done...the journey just has one step left! Thanks Craig, that's a brilliant post. The part about looking back on how far we have come is probably something lots of us have neglected to do as we focus forward on the marathon itself.

I'll give ya a shout if I see you...will you be in McGrattans afterwards?

    Week 20 of 20-

Monday-rest. Lifted all of the decking out the back on Sunday so back was in ribbons and was a little worried.
Tuesday-4m @ 10.20. Back pain ahead moved into the hammies so wasn't sure about running but decided to take it easy. Felt ok running
Wednesday- 5m @ 8.11. 1m warm up followed by 3m at PMP (ended up about 10-15 secs faster than that even) and a 1m cool down. Good to stretch the legs and feel in my head that I could- even if it was only 3m
    Thursday- rest and food!!
Fri- rest, expo and more food. Enjoyed the expo for the experience but didn't stay too long
Saturday- 3.15m @ 10.11. Did the loacal park run at a very easy pace and took my son along to do his first one. Hopefully able to sleep well tonight as last night wasn't great.

    Roll on tomorrow
