Hi all, busy day here and finally catching up.

Best of luck to all of you tomorrow and thanks so much to everybody for all the support and advice.

Nerves have definitely set in here. I feel i’ve eaten way too much and no way I can run a marathon tomorrow!

Time to get my gear ready now and calm down.

    BEST OF LUCK NOVICES!

You will be some of the best prepared people running the DCM tomorrow, so have plenty of confidence and just go out and enjoy it. Treat it as a your longest LSR and then a bit more at the end and the whole tapering piece will kick in nicely for you and you will have enough in the tank to get around the course.

It's all been said before, but just remember not to get caught up in the rush and excitement at the start and concentrate on getting the first 10K out of the way at a pace that is comfortable. Don't worry too much if things start to unravel a bit and veer off plan a bit, just get a comfortable pace going and keep moving forward, try not to stop as it may be hard to get going again. Remember to 'High 5' as many kids as possible on the course!

Well done to WW and the mentors for running an excellent Novice Thread for 2017, very informative and great fun thrown in too!

I will probably be lurking around between the Submarine bar and the KCR to cheer you on, stay positive and things will be fine, you can and you will do this!;)

    The nerves are really going.

How well does the tracking site work ? The misses and kids want to cheer me on and I don’t want to keep them there all day.

Pretty Well My gang tracked Me last year , I took a pitstop on Chesterfield avenue and they though I'd keeled over.

Does it not just track what time you pass every 10km?

Please check that you are using the latest table to put your bib number up. Using any random table in the thread can lead to other people's numbers going missing. Thanks.

Good morning. First post here and all that lark, I'd used this thread a few years back and found it incredibly useful so just wanted to drop in and wish everyone the very best of luck.
You've done the training and now is the big day, there's loads of advice out there but the best I can give is stick with the pace, it's incredibly easy to go out fast and burn out too early but stick with your planned pace and it'll work. High fiving kids is also awesome!

Also enjoy the day and the atmosphere; the other runners, the hoards of supporters, the finish line and the post run pint, it's all an amazing day.

Oh I think I can spare you one! Just promise me there will be no heroic dives for the line to get under 4 hours! I want to read a really boring race report from you along the lines of....Mile 1 went to plan, Mile 2 went to plan etc etc. I know the reports which involve loss of limbs, rescuing a cat from a tree, being witness to a couple getting married on the side of the road on Hearbreak Hill or losing your gel belt at mile 2 and struggling manfully to the end surviving only on road kill and berries picked from trees get all the likes and thanks but personally I'd prefer we have a trouble free day! :)

Good to see you up bright and early and in chirpy moods....the big day is finally here and you are going to smash it.

Yeah no diving across the line....unlike the finish in the Leinster Novice XC yesterday.....worth a look ok the myrunresults Facebook page!

Wow that was close. I think he learned how to dive like that from watching Lazare in the FD 10!

Yeah Craig, we're ready. Never again will most of us be so well trained, so well advised or receive so much encouragement to complete a marathon. Throw in the fact that it's our first one and it's something to look forward to and embrace, not to be afraid of. I can't wait!

    LMAO :pac::pac:

Seriously though, I feel really confident. Have been visualising my race for the last hour or so, particularly the last 10k and I feel I know what I need to do.

Man, that trip up the Kybher with yourself and C has really helped with that confidence.

Now, it could all go pear shaped, and I don't really mind that, I said all along to myself that I want to set off confident, for me that's super important.

You will all have a blast.....it is actually hard to describe how good the support is out on the course.....Myos in Castleknock and the right turn at Dolphins Barn were two particular stand out places for me last year.....the last mile or so is pretty special aswell.

Embrace the day for what it is;you are all so well prepared.....you will learn so much from the day aswell not just physically but mentally.
